Like to install (and use) freekitesim, but having installation problems.

Hello,

I would like to install and use FreeKitesim for my thesis.
It seems that the installation instructions are outdated and I'm getting stuck at multiple places.

Besides the instructions on the main page there exist different files describing the installation. It is not clear which approach to take.

Would you like to help me get the system working and/or update and unify the installation instructions?

I'm using Ubuntu 18.04.

Installing freekitesim on newer versions of Ubuntu (then 12.04) is a bit problematic.

In particular the library cgkit is quite outdated and unmaintained.

I will look into the installation issues at the weekend.

I tried to make FreeKiteSim work on Ubuntu 18.04 at the weekend,
but I failed.

The problem is that cgkit contains cpp code that is not compatible
with C++ 11, which is nowadays the default.

I want to implement a new 3D viewer, but that might take some time.
An alternative would be to build a virtual machine with FreeKitesim,
using Ubuntu 12.04 and put that online.

Would someone be interested in a virtual machine with FreeKiteSim?

Thank you for taking a look at it. It is unfortunate that it did not work out.

Speaking for myself at the time of writing, a virtual machine is not what I need.

If anything changes or any progress is made on the 3D viewer, please keep me updated.
