Hi There,

I can install the packages without any errors, but the directory 00PythonSoftware does not exist. If I try to install the freekitesim package again directly from the binstar channel I get the error

Error: No packages found in current linux-64 channels matching: boost 1.55.0

even though when i run conda list it says boost 1.55.0 is in the environment.

Am I doing something wrong?

Kind regards

Leo

Dear Leo,

I am glad, that you give free kitesim a try. Are you are using it just privately or do you intend to do research or work for a company?

Some questions:
a) Which operating system are you using?
b) Which command did you execute exactly, that was failing?

I will check the installation instructions in a virtual machine, as soon as I find the time.

Best regards:

Uwe

Hello,
I was able to reproduce the problem.

Try the following:
Start a terminal (keyboard: <ALT>+<CTRL>+<t>) and type:

mkdir 00PythonSoftware
cd 00PythonSoftware
git clone https://bitbucket.org/ufechner/FreeKiteSim.git

Now at least the section ¨How to use the log-file viewer¨
should work.

I will look into the installation problem of spyder_full
later.

Best regards:

Uwe

Hi Uwe,

Thanks so much, the player and simulator work now. I am attempting to develop a tool for stability prediction and turning behavior of tethered aircraft for conceptual design. I'm working for eWind Solutions (small start up, 5 employees) and wanted to look at FreeKiteSim for its implementation of the vortex lattice method in python and the way it deals with the side force during turns and lateral motion. I aim first to see how the aerodynamic model might be modified to accommodate different kite planes with different coupled forces to replicate behavior seen in testing.

Does the LGPL license allow for me to use it at this company? Let me know,

Kind Regards,

Leo

Dear Leo,

I am happy that the simulator now works for you. Some remarks:
1. Free KiteSim is NOT using the vortex lattice method to simulate the wing. It uses a 4 point model with aerodynamic forces attached to three of the points.
For details, look at my paper: http://arxiv.org/abs/1406.6218
The model is partially validated for leading edge inflatable kites. Currently one of my students is trying to extend it for rigid wings.

2. The LGPL license means, that if you improve the code of the model or the simulator, you have to publish your improvements. If you just use the model
and extend it with a proprietary GUI, then you can sell the GUI and don't have to publish its code.

If you should be interested in commercial support, please write an email to in...@aenarete.eu .

Best regards:

Uwe

Dear Uwe,

Do you have any more information on how your lift and drag look up tables were populated? and did you need any corrections for 2d to 3d effects or were they just adjusted to match the L/D that you measured?

Kind Regards,

Leo
