Dear Charles,
How did you celebrate your birthday? Did you think of other children who share your birthday? Were you able to inform the children over radio who listen in and share ideas on how you can celebrate a birthday in a creative way? You could do a programme (ask them to write letters, do vox pops, interviews with your shared birthday children) on this theme and document it.
Every day is some child's birthday and some pass without getting any mention for lack of means by the guardians or parents. It is a cherished wish for any child to have such a 'fabulous' day with presents and lots to eat. Yet with little provisions, children can understand and give innovative ways they can mark such a day without straining the home budget where available money has to be shared among priorities like medicine, food and other fees.
It would be interesting for the children and parents to use your joy as a learning opportunity in marking marking such important moments in children lives beyond the traditional renditions of happy birthday songs.
So, can we have a report on how children shared with Uncle Charles on creative ways they could celebrate a birthday .....? :-)
