Ted, update on the display resolution issue you saw on Saturday:

https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-test-list/2009-October/msg00864.html

Weirdly, I don't see all the replies to that message in the mailman
interface. But the reply to that message from Adam Williamson (QA
hacker extraordinaire) has a bunch of juicy info for you. Looks like
a lot of things were fixed post-beta, but the reporter has a specific
weird "phantom display" problem that appears to *disappear* after a
screensaver kicks in and then is unlocked.

Paul,

After I got home I did a re-install of Fedora 12 from the web.  The display problem during firstboot is indeed fixed.  I did not play with the screensaver but I can give it a try once I get home this evening.

I did notice though that the firstboot screen appers as the GDM background for a short while until the appropriate background can be loaded.  The basic sequence is firstboot -> blank screen -> GDM with firstboot as the background -> correct background loaded.  It isn't a big deal as it quickly (a second or two) fixes itself, it is just something that I did not see in any previous releases.

The F12 "beta" does look really good though.  I especially like the new interfce for keys and passwords.  Now if there was just one to tweak the .gtk2rc file so we could further customize GNOME....
