On this evening's Weather Net, Mark ( AC3EW ), told us about a new lightning detector that he just purchased. He posted the link on the NetLogger text page and I've copied it and pasted it here for those who wish to investigate further. Thanks Mark.

All,

Here is a link to a less capable, very portable lightning detector that is significantly lower cost.   This is the detector we had at the summer field day event as we sheltered from the storms.  Yes, the phone apps are  very useful as well if you have cell service.

Neat !  I  guess it has a sound detector and compares  delay in sound to rf rx sig, approx 1200 ft/sec at sea level for sound to get approx distance.
