Good morning captains!
Please read all of this email as there is a lot of really important information in it.
The schedule is very close to being final as we work to finalize it now. Once ready, it will be shared with all of you and posted online. Attached to this email is a table notifying each team of their bye schedule, since I know that is the clutch component. This table will also include registration status updates.
Speaking of which, please remind your teams that they have to register before they can play Fools Fest. The attached table shows if your team has 7 or less players of a given match type. It also will show if you are under the 16 person minimum. Please shoot me an email letting me know your plans to get above the limit. They may be as simple as "We have multiple one day players" or "We know we're low and we'll have to live with it" or whatever else. I just would appreciate the knowledge that we have it covered.
Every single player will have to check in at the garage this year. I recommend you ask your teams to come earlier to give time for that process. Each player will get a wristband that corresponds to their status. They will have to wear that wristband for the whole weekend or the whole day (for single day registration). They will also get their Fools Fest cup. They will have to have their ID to check in. They will not need anything to enter the beer garden besides wearing their wristband. They should bring their cup since that is what we will be serving beer in this year in an effort to be more environmentally friendly. If someone loses their wristband or their cup, they can purchase a new one for $5 at the garage. As a reminder, anyone playing without a wristband will cause your team to lose the deposit. And that player will need to immediately register or leave.
We will have two captains meetings on Friday. The first at 8:30AM (if you have a first round game) and the second at 10:30 (if you have a first round bye). You MUST send someone to the meeting.
Spirit games: Remember to play each team's spirit game. The schedule is designed to leave you time to do so.
Volunteering: I have sent specific volunteer assignments to certain teams. Please ensure you provide the right number of people at the right time for any given task. If you skip out on whatever volunteer assignment you are given, it will be a very heavy black mark against your team in any future years. Please have your designated folks check in at the garage or the beer garden. Please note that if you're coming from a game or going to a game, staff will cover the beginning and end of your beer garden shift and that not every team will get a specific assignment. Whether or not your team gets an assignment, we do need all teams to pitch in with cleaning up. In previous years, Fools staff had to do a lot of cleanup for multiple sidelines. And the park staff had to pitch in. That should not have to happen. Please pick up your own trash. And any other trash you see. This is imperative for us to be able to keep running this tournament at this location.
Saturday afternoon pizza: We are once again handing out a few pizzas per team at the end of games on Saturday (either after round 4 or round 5, depending on whether you have a round 5 bye). One of your captains will have to come pick up the pizzas at the end of your day on Saturday. All scores and spirit scores will need to be reported before you can get pizza.
Our Saturday night party is moving to a new location - Strangeways Brewing (350 Lansdowne Rd, Fredericksburg, VA 22401). They have an awesome outdoor space and we'll be hanging out there from 8 - 11 PM. We'll provide a free beer to the first 150 people who show up. Please note that we won't have a shuttle this year to Strangeways.
Beer Garden: Friday and Saturday will open at the start of the 3rd round and you MUST have your wristband to enter each day. You will NOT need your ID this year to enter the beer garden. ANY jumping/ducking/crossing of the beer garden fence means that you will be asked to leave. Additionally, if it gets bad at all, we will close the beer garden for a short while so that everyone can be mad at YOU for ruining the fun. This year Fools is making a big move towards being more environmentally friendly. We will distribute a plastic cup to each player to use in the beer garden throughout the weekend. Do not lose your cup! Please emphasize this point to your teams. As always, we will not fill other receptacles, such as nalgenes, with beer.
Consent: Fools Fest staff and players support a fun and consensual weekend! Consent is defined as a decision that is actively, consistently, enthusiastically and freely given with no form of manipulation from one side. As a party tournament, consent comes in many forms - from the drinking games to the people we leave with from the tournament party. Remember, consent applies when we’re sober and can’t legally be given when we’re drunk, and it applies with teammates, friends, and that cute handler you just met. We’ll also be partnering with Upwind Ultimate to provide more information throughout the tournament (conveniently located in the beer tent)!
Social Media: Any important info like schedule changes or anything else will be posted on social media. Check us out on facebook, twitter, and instagram!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE: ONLY use the Port-o-potty's or bathrooms at the garage. Avoid going in the woods. The locals who will be using the walking trail/playground/etc all watch for this, and complain to the county and make our lives MUCH more difficult in trying to obtain fields year after year... just don't do it.
NO GLASS. Nuff Said.
Dogs are welcome... on-leash, clean up after them 100% of the time.
Trainer will be on-site all weekend, and instructions for more severe injuries are in the program.
Be Kind to all. If ANY staff member asks you to do anything, please comply... no one gets paid, everyone helping is a volunteer that pays the same as you to play with their team, and they do this to make the experience great for all the players.. so please be respectful at all times. If not, you'll be asked to leave.. and we don't want to do that.
Let me know if I missed anything.
We're really excited to see you all back out there this Friday and are looking forward to an awesome tourney!
