Looking at the coverage reduction between 2005 (http://www.fred-
ezone.ca/coverage.php) and 2010 (http://groups.google.com/group/fred-
ezone-newsgroup/web/wifi-coverage), one has to wonder if Fred-eZone is
being abandoned/dying? Similarly, the web site hasn't seen an update
since 2005... I had hoped coverage would be being expanded, but even
getting it back to its 2005 coverage would be a big improvement.

Since this forum has a bit of activity, it suggests there is still
some maintenance being done. As such, I wonder how one goes about
getting dead access points resurrected? In this particular case, I'm
wondering about point #5 (Located on the CARIS building) which seems
to have disappeared/died.

Many thanks for any info!

Fred-eZone continues to be supported on a daily basis, however the
support can only address issues with the fred-eZone infrastructure
itself and not outside factors. The decrease in the coverage footprint
happens every season as the foilage grows back and scatters the WiFi
signal. Also in the last 5 years the number of other WifI devices in
the city has exploded. This in itself plays havoc with the established
coverage area of fred-eZone. Every device within signal range of an AP
decreases that AP's effectiveness, either by crossing the same channel
or clobbering the signal altogether. That being said the coverage
footprint has not decreased due to failing AP's or lack of support for
the service. To roll back the clock and have the same coverage as we
had when we initially deployed the Ap's would require all of the
adjacent WiFi deviceds to be turned off. Only so many devices can
occupy the same area without negatively affecting each other.
On the mention of the Caris AP specifically, I am connected to the AP
as I write this and it appears to me to be operating properly. We will
make a point to physically check the AP to be sure.

I hope this addresses some of the questions/concerns you expressed.
