Hey All,
I thought I would pass along this email
I hope the start of the new year is treating you well! My name is Vanessa Meschke, and I’m graduate student at the Colorado School of Mines. I’m writing to you today to share an opportunity for a summer research opportunity for undergraduates that I was hoping
you’d be able to share with the students taking courses in the chemistry department at FRCC. We’ve had students from your school in the REU previously, and they were wonderful to work with, so I wanted to make sure we share this opportunity with them again!
The research will be funded through the NSF REU program, and participants will receive at stipend of $6,600 for participation over the summer. The REU is focused on the intersection of experimental materials science and informatics, and this will be the second
year we’ve led it. The REU will be held virtually the summer, so students will be able to participate from their homes to reduce any stress related to travel and the COVID-19 pandemic. Last summer, we were able to re-scope the in-person projects to make them
amenable to a virtual format, which worked well for the 13 students that participated. Students need not have a background in materials science, computer science, or research. However, we are looking for applicants who are excited about working on an interdisciplinary
materials science project over the course of the summer. I’m happy to answer any more questions if anything’s unclear at your convenience!
More information on the REU can be found on the website at
https://materialsreu.mines.edu/, and the application is at
https://forms.gle/kBMUK9JUzLwkZ3sX9. Students with questions about the application process are encouraged to review the application details at
https://materialsreu.mines.edu/apply/ or to reach out via email to either my advisor Eric Toberer (
etob...@mines.edu) or myself (
vmes...@mymail.mines.edu). Again, I hope that you’re doing as well as you
can this year, and I appreciate your time in reading this email. I look forward to hearing from you.
Best,
Vanessa Meschke
