Back 40 Land Management: https://www.back40land.com/

Part time fall/winter position, full time starting spring of 2026.

Starting pay: $15.50/hour - $20.50/hour DOE.

Back 40 has formed a reputation along the Front Range for prescribing and providing science-backed land management practices that are realistic for the average landowner to implement. Our specialized services and expertise allow landowners to achieve their land management goals; whether its increasing grass production for an equine facility, controlling noxious weeds on native pastureland, removing invasive woody species in riparian habitat, or creating land management plans for communities that contain a shared open space, Back 40 is committed to providing the full scope of work needed and forming long-term relationships with clients.

We have experienced rapid growth since starting in 2018 and we’re looking for someone who wants to grow with us! The Land Management Tech is a part-time seasonal employment position in the combined fields of natural resources and agriculture. Our goal with this position is to engage with creative and enthusiastic students who are interested in returning to a full-time position with us in the spring of 2026.

Technicians will help accomplish a variety of field work tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Supervised herbicide applications using a backpack sprayer or UTV sprayer

  • Assisting with the operation of a hydroseeder
  • Cutting down small trees/shrubs and hand-dragging material to a staging area
  • Light pruning tasks

On-the-job training will be provided, but there are a few key requirements that need to be met before a new-hire can fill this role:

  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Availability to work at least 15hrs/week, ideally being available with multiple full days off over the fall semester

Ideal candidates will have abilities/experience in the following areas:

  • A background in plant identification.
  • Basic knowledge of herbicide mixing and application.
  • Experience operating equipment mentioned above, or similar.
  • Mental toughness – not afraid to spend long days working alone in the heat doing manual labor.
  • Physical fitness –Ability to hike up to a mile over uneven terrain carrying a 35-pound backpack, lift 25 pounds to head height, lift and carry 50 pounds over short distances, hand/forearm strength to squeeze a spray gun all day, and ability to work on your feet all day.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and compare your work orders to basic maps generated for work sites.
  • General interest in further developing a career with our company after this internship.

This position is anticipated to be filled from August through mid December, 2025, with an opportunity to return as a full time employee in mid February, 2026. Work hours are subject to change based on weather conditions.
