I didn't so much wake up as I just stopped being passed out. Closing my
eyes tightly to shut out the smoky orange glare of the sun, I pulled a
scrap of paper off my face, then turned sideways and squinted at the
words printed on it.

"After not pressing the red button labeled 'END', you should press the
lightish red button labeled 'STOP'. You don't want the /other/ guy to
immanentize the eschaton, do you?"

I resolved at that moment that future rules must explain who the other
guy is, and why the end-times were their fault, or else me and Bessie
would serve them but good. Acme didn't recruit me into their Novel
Undertaking Knowledge Enforcement division for nothing.
