This is webmail ( G mail account ) icon , & if you go to the settings in gmail and disable both POP account and IMAP account as you posted in your original question , problems will come in IMAP account , so don't do any changes in web mail , the settings are by default .Mail application is just configured to gmail services .

I'm pretty sure it's using IMAP. When I right-click a mailbox in the navigation sidebar > Get Account Info > Summary, I can see that the incoming server is "imap.gmail.com" and outgoing server is "smtp.gmail.com". Also: the folders I've enabled IMAP for, are the ones that appear in the Mail app.

Since updating to iOS 11 and using the gmail app, when I get a new email it has the badge number but when I go in and look at those emails, the badge doesn't go away unless I restart the phone. It always looks like I have new email when I don't. Very annoying. Does anyone know of a fix or do I have to wait until gmail fixes it. Also, I cannot seem to find support for the gmail app anywhere.

What I don't understand is the difference between my gmail password and an "app password." I don't have an app password for iOS mail, at least not the I know of. Do I need two different passwords now for gmail when I use apple mail? And do I get the app password when using my iPhone or is it something I get by logging in to my gmail account from my Windows laptop.

I just signed in to my gmail account. It shows my laptop and my iPhone as registered devices. It says my phone is signed in via Safari. But there's nothing about Apple Mail, an app password, or about any other iOS app for that matter. It only shows Thunderbird as "Third-party apps with account access".

There also is some discussion of turning on 2FA. I don't have it turned on because it requires that Google be able to send me a text message or call me. I travel outside the US a lot, and they won't text me to my foreign cell phone. I have the same problem with Capitol One. There is no way to login because their 2FA only works with a US cell or landline number. I was hoping there was some way to use gmail on my iPhone without 2FA, as I can do on my Windows machine.

I went into the gmail app in my iphone and ipad and updated the gmail app. then I went into each and went to settings > the account > notifications > switch to None then back to All new mail > backed out then to Notification Sound updated to Welcome for both devices > backed out and closed the app.

from what I was reading on other sites the Gmail tone Classic (which my ipad defaulted to) is no longer working, so I think doing a quick reset of my notifications to off then back on and selecting a tone of anything but Classic (which only shows on my ipad and not on my iphone as an option), and it worked like a gem!

HI guys,I have an issue login into the gmail app on Iphone. I have downloaded the gmail application as well as the google keep application and when I try to login to either one , it brings me to the login page and I key in my email and my password . However , the same error message keeps popping up repeatedly over again - "Error , Sorry there seems to be a problem. Please try again ."

I have tried to couple of workarounds. I have removed 2 of my gmail accounts located under settings and I have reinstalled these two accounts and rebooted my phone . I have also checked whether other function in the phone could have caused these issues , such a VPN blocker. I have found none so far.

The current iphone which I have issues with is an Iphone 6s 128 gb which is running on version 10.2.1. I have restored this iphone from itunes which I have synced with my other iphone ( 6 , 16 gb )running the same version of the ios. The gmail and google keep application on my other iphone ( 6, 16gb ) is able to run both application without any issues.

1) Removing the gmail application from my other iPhone ( iphone 6 ). After reinstalling the gmail application again ,in the process of signing into the application on the Iphone 6 , I noted that there was an option for me to choose the gmail account which I wanted to associate with this application . After I removed these options , I had uninstalled and installed the gmail application again on the iPhone 6. This time however, I was unable to sign into the gmail application on the iphone 6 and I had encountered the similar issue as I have described .

2)I had previously used a Samsung phone running on Android with another phone , Lenovo. Both phones were able to access the gmail application without any issues. When I switched from Samsung to Apple ( iPhone 6) , the gmail function was still working fine. It was only after I synced the Iphone 6 into iTunes and and then synced iTunes with iphone 6 s did this issue occurred.

I was getting a message that said "... mail server "imap.gmail.com" not responding..." and my gmail account was not syncing mail after several days. I tried several simple approaches like restarting mail app, and restarting the phone. Then I tried deleting the gmail account in the settings app. When I went back to re-add the account using the automatic Google menu create account option, I started getting weird results. After entering my gmail account and password for a split second the "mail, contacts, calendar, notes option panel shows up and then disappears and the menu of mail providers reappears without any explanation. I tried many times and get the same results. I am at a loss now as to how to add my gmail account to my mail app. I can obviously use the native gmail app, but I can't believe I am the only one with this problem. Any suggestions? (I was having this problem on my iPhone 6s before upgrading to iPhone X and latest iOS.)

I already deleted and re-installed accounts. I am the manager in google family, and I follow the procedure, granting her access. When we go in the mail app, nothing loads, nothing sends, and we get a "gmail temporary unavailable" error, but it's been two days. Plus, gmail perfectly works on her iPad, or computer, or browser. Just not on the iPhone email app. I checked all settings, compared to my own iPhone, and they all match. Other options I might have not tried?

Yesterday, I asked my wife to go to gmail.com and clean up my inbox because I had over 500 messages in there. She logged into gmail.com using my email and password and she cleaned it up to only have 12 messages.

I wasn't aware that she had finished because all day, my apple mail that is linked to my gmail showed the same 500 messages. When I came into work this morning, I noticed that it now says 249 messages so it did, in fact, delete (or archive) some of them. I'm wondering if the only ones that updated are the ones that she deleted but not the ones she archived.

So my question is what am I doing wrong with my settings. Is there a setting messed up where archiving messages in gmail.com doesn't archive them in apple mail or visa versa or is the whole thing just not syncing correctly?

One day noticed there were MILLIONS of copies of notes made on my iPhone (sometimes many copies of one note, what joy) filling up my various gmails. Found out here (thank you apple support community) that if i go into settings>mail>accounts on my iphone and toggle the 'notes' button to 'off' in each of those accounts, it will stop sending copies to my gmail, huzzah! Also that terrifying warning comes up saying all those notes will be deleted from my phone. Gack.

Well, having to set it up that way in the first place. But more, she will have to use two different user interfaces. She likes, and is comfortable with, the gmail app and will not like the idea of having to use an entirely different application for her gmail. On her phone, when she wants to share something, there are a dozen different options, she can share just about anything TO just about anything. I will explain it to her, but it is going to frustrate her that she can't just use the gmail app itself to share.

OK, thanks, that sounds like what I will have to do. She is used to sending out using gmail, so having to use any other UI will sort of freak her out (she is not that tech savvy and doesn't like change), but I guess she will get used to it. It is SO much simpler in Android. You go to share from any app and you have a list of apps that you can use (Evernote, Drive, Dropbox, gmail, any SMS program you like, Pocket, Twitter, Flickr, etc, etc, etc). Just pick and go (and they are automatically added to the list when they are installed). I don't understand how iOS doesn't have this feature yet.

That is good to know. We have just started installing apps, so I was worried that this would be a more significant problem. As long we can save to Pocket, Google+, SMS or MMS, Google Drive, etc, we can workaround this gmail issue.

I just got a new Macbook for the first time in eight years (yay!), and I wanted to sync my contacts. My old Mac had a problem where the messenger app wouldn't recognize contacts, and it turns out my contacts from the last year aren't stored in iCloud. I tried troubleshooting methods online, and I figured out my default account for my contacts was set to my Gmail account? It must have happened when I got a new phone a year ago. Now, when I go to the contacts app and click groups and uncheck my gmail account so it is only icloud contacts, half of my contacts disappear.
