The term 'hairdryer treatment' is used in football to describe an angry verbal reprimand, usually delivered by a manager to an individual player or group of players within a dressing room.

While it is normally associated with managers who become furious with their players during or after games, players can also administer such dressing downs and it does not have to be confined to a dressing room.

The term 'hairdryer treatment' rose to prominence during the heyday of legendary Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson, who was known to possess a temperamental streak when it came to matters of discipline and performance.

Indeed, the towering Dutchman has infamously fallen out with individuals such as Johan Cruyff, Rivaldo, Mark van Bommel and Luca Toni. He has also delivered stinging rebukes to journalists, calling one 'fat man' and cheekily slapping another on the face during his time as United boss.

While manager of Bayern Munich, he famously scolded a British journalist for failing to maintain eye contact with him when he was answering a question that was put to him. "Look at me when I talk to you," he commanded.

He has cultivated a reputation as a surly manager who never holds back when his players are falling short during the game and there is an abundance of footage online showing the veteran subjecting various teams to the 'hairdryer treatment'. There is no end to Warnock's fury.

Something that I noticed last year as well as this year on football manager mobile is the fact that the AI likes to switch to a 4-4-2. Shouldn't normally be a problem, right? However, no matter what the score, team, match, or players, the AI will ALWAYS switch to a 4-4-2 of spme sort. This isn't a game breaker or anything, but it annoys me and takes away the immersion and realism. Does this only happen to me? Here is an image of the "defensive 4-4-2" that the AI switched to despite me being up 2-0. This happens a lot.

Football is a game full of tension. Not only are the margins between winning and losing often minimal, the emotionally-charged nature of the sport means that managers and players tend to walk a fine line as they strive for victory.

While most managers remain somewhat respectful to their opposite number in the heat of battle, there have been several examples where tensions have bubbled over the surface, resulting in the most dramatic touchline bust-ups.

The infamous 'Spygate' scandal pitted Leeds United boss Bielsa against Derby County's Lampard as both clubs battled for promotion to the Premier League. In an outrageous attempt to gain an advantage, the FA gave Leeds a hefty 200,000 fine after Bielsa sent one of his coaches to spy on a Derby training session.

The rivalry between Celtic and Rangers was at fever pitch in 2011, with McCoist's side on the brink of liquidation. Following a 1-0 defeat to Lennon's men in which Rangers had three players dismissed, the two managers came nose-to-nose in one of the most iconic bust-ups ever.

Given the high-profile nature of the collision, government officials were called to discuss the incident in the Scottish parliament. Speaking to the BBC in 2015, Lennon reflected on the infamous clash: "A lot had gone on that night. There were things I didn't like, there were things Ally didn't like. We had a few words and that was the end of it."

Our number one managerial bust-up is the incredible altercation between Catania coach Baldini and Parma's Di Carlo in 2007. Baldini, a man renowned for his short fuse, refused to leave the touchline after being dismissed, leading to a heated verbal exchange with his opposite number, Di Carlo.

The referee immediately signalled the goal as being valid. Irish players inside the penalty box appealed the decision by raising their arms, and as Henry wheeled away in celebration around the back of the Irish goal, Given ran to the referee gesticulating that a handball offence had occurred, while Irish manager Giovanni Trapattoni did the same to the fourth official.

French team manager Raymond Domenech said of the game, "I don't see what we could have done better...We needed to qualify and we did that, even if it was painful. Victories like this one, at the end of a difficult campaign, give this side heart and soul", although criticism in France of his team, which had existed before the game, continued.[29] Domenech later criticised the condemnation of Henry and France, and questioned the right of former French players like Cantona and Lizarazu to criticise his record as the French coach.[30]

On the issue of possible disciplinary sanctions against Henry individually, a FIFA spokesperson stated "The [independent] disciplinary commission...will decide if the case is of interest [when they meet sometime in the next two weeks]. The possibility exists of sanctioning a player for unsporting behaviour on the basis of video evidence".[65] Examples of FIFA disciplinary action taken against players for incidents missed by the referee based on video evidence include banning Mauro Tassotti for eight games for use of an elbow during the 1994 World Cup quarter-final, and banning Marco Materazzi for two games for his verbal provocation of Zinedine Zidane in the 2006 FIFA World Cup Final, resulting in the infamous headbutting incident.[65]

The incident has been compared to Maradona's infamous "Hand of God" goal in the 1986 World Cup, which led to the incident being labelled as the "Hand of Frog"[29][81][82][83][84][85] the "Hand of Gaul"[86] and the "Hand of Henry" affair.[87][88]

On 22 November, the Irish Independent claimed that the FFF had been willing to stage a replay and that FIFA would not have prevented it, but the offer had been blocked by the French manager Raymond Domenech.[129]

Early June 2010, Swedish film director Mattias Löw released the documentary film The Referee, produced for SVT - Sveriges Television, where he follows the referee, Martin Hansson, of the infamous playoff match in Paris, for a year leading up to FIFA World Cup 2010. The film portrays the Thierry Henry handball incident in Paris in detail from the referee's point of view.

Droid i have read all that, now I will not configure my game so that the images are in English. I believe that I have put all the necessary images, everything is clear, if you consider that the conditions are not required do not test the tactic but there will be no change on my part. I've always done it that way, the rules have certainly changed, but I'm sorry about that. the football manager community does not all speak English and I believe that is its strength

The rivalry between the England and Argentina national football teams is generally traced back to the 1966 FIFA World Cup.[3][4] During the quarter-final game at Wembley Stadium, the home of the England national team, Argentine captain Antonio Rattin was sent off as Argentina lost in a game which contained excessive foul play.[5] Rattin was angered at the sending-off, feeling that the German referee Rudolf Kreitlein, who did not speak Spanish, had been biased towards the English, a fellow European nation, in front of their home fans, and stamped over the royal carpet in the stadium. This led England manager Alf Ramsey to describe the Argentines as "animals",[6] comments that were viewed as racist by the Argentines.[4]

Following the match, the German players and managers offered words of consolation to the Brazilians. Löw and players Per Mertesacker and Philipp Lahm even compared the pressure on the Brazilian team and resulting heartbreaking defeat with Germany's own when they hosted the 2006 FIFA World Cup and also lost in the semifinals.[55][57][58] Lahm added in an interview after the tournament that he had felt "very uneasy" during the match and "not at all euphoric" since the Brazilian team had made mistakes that "don't usually happen at this level",[59] and Mertesacker noted that despite featuring the Germans at the top of their game, "even from the bench, [the semifinal] was crazy to watch".[58] Kroos stated that, despite Brazil having good players, "they couldn't show their best performance" due to all the outside pressure, and expressed faith in "them returning with a good squad".[41][60] Löw observed in the immediate aftermath of the match that the Brazilian people were applauding his team.[21] Later the Brazilian newspaper O Globo expressed appreciation for the gestures of the German players, calling them "world champions of sympathy".[61]
