Hello everyone
We'll move onto Fanon's last book, The Wretched of the Earth, this week.
Fanon wrote this book in a few weeks as both his life and the Algerian war against colonialism were drawing to a close. The first chapter, On Violence, provides an account of colonialism and the initial forms of resistance to it. There is a copy of it online at:
I've also attached a very short introduction to Fanon, which has just been produced by the Church Land Programme in Pietermartizburg. It is in English and Zulu.
Nigel Gibson, who has published a monograph and an edited collection on Fanon this year, will be giving a seminar at Rhodes on Wednesday afternoon next week. Some of my colleagues have suggested that we don't have a reading group meeting as well as the seminar next week. Nigel will be leaving on Thursday afternoon and has been invited to have supper with Saleem Badat on Wednesday evening. But if the people that have been part of the reading group would like to meet with him perhaps we could organise something for the Monday or Tuesday evening. I'll be in Durban this week but if the rest of the group can discuss this possibility on Thursday evening then someone can let me know what has been decided in this regard.
Cheers
Richard
