Dear friend,
The national recession has hit home and everything is at stake for our children next school year.
Reach out. That’s why we ask you to take action TODAY on behalf of Massachusetts’ one million school children. Help keep teachers in classrooms, and prevent the deep budget cuts that sentence tens of thousands of children annually to academic failure.
Speak up. It will take less than two minutes to send an email to the members of the Conference Committee at www.stand.org/ma/actionalert. This is our last chance to influence the state’s FY2010 budget. Senators Panagiotakos, Brewer, and Knapik, and Representatives Charley Murphy, L’Italien, and deMacedo must shortly make final budget decisions that affect all Massachusetts classrooms. They need to hear your urgent plea to:
Protect children by providing sufficient state-based revenue to support:
-
Chapter 70 and local aid
-
Special Education circuit breaker reimbursements
-
Existing expanded learning time (ELT) programs
-
Existing pre-Kindergarten and all-day Kindergarten programs
Provide communities with local revenue and cost-saving tools:
-
Local hotel/motel and meals tax options
-
Elimination of the telecom tax loophole
-
Money-saving municipal health benefit reforms
The action you take today will help protect our children, their schools, and our communities. Please take just two minutes right now to send an urgent message to Beacon Hill at www.stand.org/ma/actionalert. Then forward this email to everyone you know – friends, neighbors, colleagues - urging them to take action, too.
Standing with you for children,
 |
