How does one get hold of Mr. Musgrove??
I have tried to email him and the email bounced
back.
Mr.
Musgrave,
I am
writing because I just read your blog about the Black Hands. I do not know
if this applies to my family or not. I'll tell you what I do know.
My great
grandmother, Delphia (aka Dolly) VanZandt York Stewart nee Jones was born to
Jesse Franklin and Susan Ann Aiken Jones around 1874. Her parents both
died when she was kind of young and she was sent to the VanZandt family for
care/support. Basically she became worker for their household.
I've never
found proof of this. But then I live in Oregon and am still raising kids,
and it will be a while before I make it to illinois to do research. But,
my gr. grandmother supposedly killed a couple men. One of the men was a
truck driver. This incident probably isn't related to the Black Hands, as
the man was putting the make on my grandmother, Hazel Lorine VanZandt as she did
her job as a waitress. My gr grandmother was the cook, and she warned the
man off before she shot him to death. He should have listened is my guess.
LOL
The other shooting (?) came about from a feud with an Italian
Family (so I have been told). People died on both sides of the feud.
People in my family are still SO afraid of rekindling the feud that they will
not help me research my great grandmother and her side of the family. Which I
think is really dumb, and it also really hurts. I want to know her
better. I could tell you a name of a cousin who knows more about it, but
he won't talk to me about it. He not only told me to leave great grandma
lie, but he called my uncle to get my uncle to pressure me to leave everything
alone. I highly doubt he'd talk to you
about it.
It is
because of this I am very interested in your writings. Hoping to find a
clue.
If you ever run into the surnames of Jones, Aikens, VanZandt, York in
your research I am hoping you will let me know. hehe! A stranger asking
for a favor. I'll buy any book that you have that might apply to my family
history of course!!!
Thanks so
much for your time, Peggy A. Rowe-Snyder
daughter
of Patricia L. Coop -- daughter of Hazel Lorine VanZandt -- daughter of Delphia
Jones.
