I got this email today asking for help.  Does anyone work on the Hammond family?  I did find a Reuben Hammond in the 1865 census, and then a marriage record in 1858 to Permelia Brayfield.  Can anyone help this lady?

Reuben is buried at plot 659 at
Fort Donelson National Battlefield - Cemetery
In Dover Tennessee.

My 12 year old son and I have decided to adopt a unattended grave and soldier. We would like to know his birthday and maybe date of death so we may place flowers on grave but I am having a very hard time finding any information your site is so helpful in finding what little I have found. If you could offer any advice I wound appreciate it.

There is a Reuben Hammond in Goode Twp, b. 1838, father Samuel in the 1850 census but I don't believe the Reuben in the email is from FCI.  I went to the Fort Donaldson site.  There is a Ruben Hammon listed Co "A", 17th regt.  USCT, grave 659.  I had to then look up thenUSCT and it means United States Colored Troops.
