Hello Parents,

I know that the students (and possibly you) are feeling lots of emotions.  I know they are going to have an ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS time and make lots of memories in Catalina!!! 😎

Please remember the following:
  • Double and triple-check the list of what students should take and not take (It was asked by several parents, so remember that sturdy tennis shoes should be enough for the hike~hiking boots are optional).  Try not to take more than necessary, but enough in case it is needed....it's a 3-day trip. I checked the weather today and the forecast says it should be in the 60s during the day and 50s at night, so don't forget a sweater shirt, preferably with a hoodie and/or a jacket, sweats/pants and warm pajamas for the evening.
  • Students are to take 2 carried items only: 1 bag with their belongings (i.e. duffle bag....NO
bags with wheels) and 1 sleeping bag (If taking a pillow, this needs to be packed inside with the sleeping bag, inside the duffle bag OR tied around the sleeping bag.)  Students need to be able to CARRY their belongings.  If they want to take a day pack to carry their water, sunscreen and other small items while hiking or for other activities, their day pack or small backpack needs to be packed inside their duffle bag and they can take it out once on the island.
  • NO Electronics, food, candy, drinks, expensive items
  • If your child is taking
    medication
and you filled out an orange form, if you haven't already done so, please put all meds in a ziplock bag, labeled with your child's name with a sharpie and either give it to me (Mrs. Gómez) tomorrow or be sure to bring it Wednesday morning for check-in.
  • Students will check-in by the auditorium between 6:30 AM-6:45 AM on Wednesday, April 12th.
  • Students will be given 2 tags to tie on their personal bag and sleeping bag.
  • The bus will leave promptly at 7:15 AM to be at San Pedro on time to take the Ferry.
  • Please remind your son/daughter about Being S.M.A.R.T. and representing Franklin in a positive, respectful and responsible manner.
  • If you have any questions, please email your child's teacher or you may email me directly: ctgomez@gusd.net
  • I will be sure to let parents know, via the Google Groups, when I receive any news from the chaperones.
Thank you!!!

One more final reminder and clarification:

  • Although the "CELP What to Bring" handout lists an "inexpensive camera and/or underwater camera", Mr. Partika and I stated at the Parent Catalina Meeting AND at the Student Catalina Meeting: per school rules and for safety reasons, students are NOT to bring any type of camera. The chaperones will take lots of pictures and share them with the parents. Also, there will be a page spread in the yearbook dedicated to the Catalina Trip.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation and adhering to the school rules.

Hi Parents,

Have your son/daughter bring a shirt, if they have one.  If not, don't worry. I asked Mrs. Black about the shirts and she said she would have some different sizes available for the students to use, if they do not own a white collared shirt (boys) or a white round neck top (girls).  I hope that helps! (If they bring their own shirt, they should bring it to change into so they don't wear it all day....unless they want to.)

I wish this info was shared with us earlier. My daughter does not own a shirt like that and we will be unable to purchase one on such short notice.
