This is for the core group that helps Franco maintain and enhance the kernel. I'll (malaroth) will transfer ownership to Franco but the email address is for everyone to access.

Welcome!

If you're here, you ARE elite franco.Kernel tuners! ;)
What's discussed stays here until implementation in the kernel. It's way easier to collaborate and fine tune here than xda, PM or email. So enjoy!

Remember: The first rule of Franco Club is you do not talk about Franco Club. :P

--------------------

If we could all go by "first name (xda nickname)" by editing our display name under Membership and email settings, that'd be great for working together.

-Chris (osm0sis); mod edit sucka :D

Yes, I suggested malaroth to create this. Its much better than plain mailing or PM's.

LOL Franco asked me to set it up. Fine I'll keep ownership but everyone has Max permissions. Because I assume that the purpose is to collaborate without xda forums

By "plain mail" do you mean the Post Office letters?  Cuz, I definitely agree that something like this is better for development than mailing stuff back and forth.

That said; Hey Franco!  Long time, no see!  lol.

Exactly. I grow tired of PM's in XDA, and emailing is just painful and harder to track.

malaroth can now set us up with the his IO tunnings and we can follow his developments and give our own feedback until we are ready to let every noob know about our optimal values.

Oh, and just so you know, we had talked back in the day about whether or not I was gonna get a Nexus 7 or 10.  Well, I finally decided, and I bought a Chromebook.  lol.  Totally takes the fun out of Android development!  :(  But it's pretty nice.  I am really happy with it (seeing as I'm sitting here typing all this on it).  :)

Cool beans.  But are we gonna keep going by XDA handles or actually call each other by name like friends.  :)  Obviously, I know Francisco and Chris (osm0sis), and I've PMed with Joaquin a few times, but I never got malaroth or GBman's names.

LOL the pm that bugged you so much was to not even let the noobs know tweaking was happening. With that said Franco... I know quadrant is flimsy. But I focused solely on the IO score. Multiple runs with fifo batch at 0 resulted in constant scores of 2k. Bumping it to 4 increased it to almost 2300 consistently. Do you have anything else to test IO?

haha,  I know, I know!  I'm sorry.  I kinda dropped my duties in the thread.  :(  I used to sit behind a desk and get paid to surf XDA all day....I mean, work on stuff...  But now my job has me physically moving stuff and being on the go most of the day.  Boo...  But it's fun, and it makes the days go by a lot faster.  :)

Yeah, I'm still tempted to get a N10, especially with the refreshed quadcore coming out next week (maybe, hopefully).  :)  And I can almost guarantee you that I'll get the Nexus 5 as soon as it comes out in May/June!

Yes NO user interaction until its ready. I've learned that for over 2 years of development on Android. Users are mostly dumb and they don't care about anything else besides the end gain. We are here for the path between discovering, learning what all options do, test the shit out of it, discuss it, and then we let them know. Thats how this rolls :)

That said, you can also use Benchmark & Tuning app. Its made by my best real life friend and the IO is pretty accurate. I know because we worked on the tests together and I know the code he wrote!

Most of the scheduler tunables will be the same on all devices minus a few variables so I think we should be OK

Perfect! I was thinking this would be a great way to do issue collection as well, since Francisco can't be omnipresent in his threads. Different thread for each device and then we can post the currently reported issues people are seeing.

I'd like to suggest a new M.O. for the grouper and tuna testing/issues threads and the f.Ku suggestion/bug thread as well: We condense all issues for each into 2 posts, one for bug reports, one for suggestions. We date the bug reports with the most recent at the top, include forum links to corresponding xda posts for each report (if they exist) and who reported should also be thrown in, then we delete all other posts, and remove new ones once the reports are added. Basically I'm suggesting we turn this bitch into a bug tracker. :)

That way Francisco can better keep up with what's happening on the GN and N7 without needing to be omnipresent on xda, and he also doesn't need to wade through posts here to see what's current; he can tell at a glance.

Awesome! Thanks for the assist!

Check out what I did with the new grouper thread. If you could grab the blurbs/formatting and add the issues from the old tuna thread to the new tuna thread I just created I'd be extremely grateful. grouper's done, so if you could just do tuna then I'll do f.Ku when I have a bit more time later in the week or next week sometime at the latest.

I've already pared down the old tuna thread to just the reports/suggestions so hopefully that's pretty straight forward; the only time consuming bit is finding the xda links so I can do that part too if you like.

Edit: Nevermind bro, I got it. :)

There, all done. :D

Edit: I also recreated the Finalized Numbers thread as a "Franco's Dev Team" post so that we'll feel more comfortable editing it and keeping it up to date as a group.

Couple weird housekeeping things having to do with Google Groups bugs that are worth noting:
- Don't mark a thread completed in a post and then delete that post or the thread will be stuck completed.
- If you delete the first post of a thread you can never rename it again.

Oh and Stu, I finally got around to making you a group Manager; didn't realize that hadn't been done yet. ;)

Since this group has pretty much served it's purpose (save for needing one other member to verify the vm Tweaks Paul and I worked out, so we can finalize them), I've gone ahead and published this group to the Groups directory, and modified the group permissions to allow 'Anyone' to view the topics. That way it's open for reading, and Google can index them and preserve it all for posterity and whatever help the wealth of information here may serve others in their searching.

Membership remains invite only (so no new members/posts), and only members can view other member info (email, etc.). If there's anything you want to remove then please go ahead and edit. Thanks for everything guys! It's been a fun ride! :)
