Heavy metal movies often have some of the best soundtracks to listen to and offer an insight into the life behind the lights of the stage. Many heavy metal films are able to incorporate excellent music to tell a story that keeps you headbanging the whole way through. Let's take a look at some of the best heavy metal movies that you can throw on whenever you want to jam out and explore the heavy metal scene.

The plot involves a drummer named Ruben who plays for a heavy-metal band called Backgammon with his girlfriend. The two make up a duo who drives around America playing metal gigs in an RV. However, things become complicated when Ruben starts to lose his hearing, and his condition deteriorates rapidly. When he goes to the doctor, the doctor recommends that he needs to eliminate all exposure to loud sounds to get on the road to implants, but Ruben refuses to give up his drumming. Despite his girlfriend's protests, he continues playing, and the news affects his sobriety. Ruben eventually gets his act on the right track and starts to learn American Sign Language. He is eventually able to get the implants he needs, but the distorted sound that he hears makes him unable to enjoy music. The film ends with him putting on a facade that all is well, but he removes the implants and chooses to remain silent. This movie is powerful and thought-provoking and features a killer soundtrack that any metalhead can headbang to, despite the main character's loss of hearing. The film would go on to win two Oscars at the Academy Awards, one being for Best Sound.

Wayne's World is a metal comedy film distributed by Paramount Pictures and released in 1992. The film stars Mike Myers and Dana Carvey as two metal fans who host a public-access TV show from their parent's basement. It follows these two metal fans as they try to make their show popular, employing comedic schemes and eventually catching the attention of a TV executive. This film has one of the best metal soundtracks, often making excuses in the plot just to include more great jams. Another fun part of the film is that it includes many pop culture and music references for devoted metalheads to catch up on.

The following article contains spoilers for Stranger Things Season 4Now that Stranger Things season four is over, fans finally know how their favorites fared in their battle against new villain Vecna. One of the highlights of the latest season was newcomer Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn), the longhaired metalhead who finds himself wrongly accused of murder. In classic Stranger Things fashion, the new fan favorite was killed off, but not before gifting fans one of the show's best scenes when he shredded "Master of Puppets" in the middle of the Upside Down. The scene was also well received by Metallica themselves.

While Eddie may no longer be part of the Hawkins gang, his metal spirit can be found within an assortment of films that tackle the headbanging genre. The following films range from comedies, horror movies, and mockumentaries, but they all possess a reverence for heavy metal. Once you have finished violently sobbing like Dustin, watch one of these movies and raise the horns for Eddie as he rides the lightning into the afterlife.

Directed by Sean Byrne, who made the cult-classic horror film The Loved Ones, The Devil's Candy pays tribute to metal through its soundtrack (Metallica, Slayer) and its characters. Jesse and Zooey are metalheads, and their shared love for the genre makes for a wholesome father-daughter relationship, adding an extra layer of tension once their lives are at risk.

A horror-comedy from New Zealand, Deathgasm follows teenage metalhead Brodie, who is forced to move to a new town. An outcast, Brodie soon befriends some fellow metal fans, and they decide to start a band. The teens come across a Satanic song they hope to add to their repertoire but accidentally unleash demons upon their small town.

Wearing its love for metal on its sleeve, Deathgasm is also a throwback to classic horror movies such as The Evil Dead. As more and more townspeople become possessed, the film piles on the gore as the band fights to end the Satanic panic they have unleashed.

This is Spinal Tap has proven to be highly influential, popularizing the mockumentary style, while certain quotes such as "turn it up to 11" have become part of popular culture. Real-life musicians such as Jimmy Page, Ozzy Osbourne, and Kurt Cobain praised the film for its amusing accuracy, and it remains one of the most beloved metal movies of all time.

I loved Metalhead a lot until the abrupt ending. But I will forgive because the rest of it was great to watch. And the lack of context made it all better. What are some sci-fi/survival/post-apocalypse movies that are tense, dark and atmospheric as Metalhead? Preferably with no or little explanation about the back story just like this episode?

Heavy Trip is one of the funniest heavy metal movies on this list. Featuring a group of friends who want to make it big as a metal band, this Finish comedy is an absolute blast. Along with its awesome humor and use of metal music, what makes Heavy Trip special is its characters, for this is one of the best cinematic representations of what it means to be a metalhead.

Of all the movies at TIFF this year, this is one I hope gets a wider release. Film making in Iceland is very young compared to the rest of the world and it's wonderful to watch these movies come out and make a splash on the international stage. And while Ragnar is quite well known at home, I think it's time he became better known around the world.

For those who agree with the Hellfire Club leader when it comes to musical taste, there are a number of metal movies out there suggested on Reddit, where metal fans provided their picks of heavy metal movie recommendations. The suggestions range from the comedic to the scary, satisfying any metal fans' cinematic taste.

NuttyMetallic gave a list of recommendations when they replied to the original post, "A few classics more on the punk or classic rock side, but as a metalhead I love them: Highlander, Rock 'n' Roll High School, Transformers:The Movie (1986), Repo Man (1984). And some Italian horror movies from the 80s with much metal on the soundtrack: Demons (1985), Phenomena, Dario Argento's Opera (1987)."

Redditor etbiludecalcinha suggested a couple of quintessential '80s horror movies as a suggestions when they wrote, "Black Roses (1988). Trick Or Treat (1986)." Trick or Treat follows bullied teen and metal mega fan, Eddie, whose favorite heavy metal superstar dies suddenly and begins to wreak havoc on his life after Eddie gets his hands on his hero's mysterious, unreleased album.

Brodie is a metalhead sent to live with his religious aunt and uncle (he describes them as "balls deep into Jesus") and douchebag jock cousin after his drug addict mom is institutionalized. He's not exactly fitting in when he meets Zakk, a fellow metalhead, at the local record store (obviously) and they start a band with two other outcasts (obviously).

"If you see only one movie this year that climaxes with demon-possessed evangelical Christians being beaten into submission by metalheads wielding double-headed black dildos and flailing anal beads, well, obviously, Deathgasm should be it," a reviewer for the Austin Chronicle wrote.

And one audience reviewer wrote, "Deathgasm is certain not to appeal to everyone and I don't think most non-metalheads would really enjoy it. But it does boast some solid characters and good practical effects for a low budget indie flick. I guess if you've ever wanted a hybrid of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and Evil Dead you'll enjoy Deathgasm."
