DMFS as a standard codec, network streaming with directshow output?

Would it be possible to have DMFS expose itself as a standard codec for use in recording applications, and have the network serving receive it to a directshow filter(s) in realtime instead of a stub file? I'm looking into possible options for high quality/performance network streaming.

Its possible, and an interesting project to work on. I may not have time to implement it but glad to help someone who wants to take it on. VictorT, any interest?

I am not sure what is this about. DMFS is directshow enabled through
AVI container codec. And it has built-in network capabilities to
provide remote access to video/audio stream and expose it locally as
AVI file. DMFS exposes itself as compatible encoder plugin to NLE and
LE editors, hence the very reason these app could utilize it.

Seems to me, someone did not researched enough functionality available
in DMFS already.

Just my 2c...

Exactly, it's only made available via a special plugin for the application. The only systemwide file codec available is DebugMode FSVFWC (internal use), which does not launch the frameserver and thus is not able to transfer any data.
I don't think DMFS could easily be modified for my original idea anyway, realtime streaming from a non-indexable source wouldn't suit it.
