q., what's best way to create a die from a nut ?

Greetings great hive-mind...
I aim to turn this nut into a die and hope for advice...
a triangular file? a "V"-slot...
a thin blade? a "I"-slot...
a tiny rotary bit? a "C"-slot...
If it matters, the nut is a 12mm X 1mm and the dies I find for this size
will not fit into the spot I want to thread
And rather than taking it all apart to get there, i aim to use a slotted
nut and a socket wrench.
