Howdy,
Thought I'de share a couple photos of our prototype work on a brazed carbide tube mitre cutter.  Could be a total waste of time - who knows?
I blanked out the cutter body from 4140 and tomorrow will finish more machining in the attempt to mitigate the thermal stresses set up by the different expansion rates of carbide and the blank steel.  Prince & Izant will provide the brazing rod and flux and then once I've brazed the carbide to the blank, Gary McKenzie will grind the o.d. and teeth.  If the brazing works (I cut in a 1/16" groove to accommodate the Prince & Izant pre-form ring of filler metal) this may be the ticket to mitre the Reynolds air hardening heat treated 853 as well as the stainless 921 and 953 material.  http://www.strawberrybicycle.com/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=Mechanique
Cheers,
Andy N.
