Justlike you can run explorer.exe C:\ to open up the C: (or any other drive or folder path), you can also use a file: URI to open paths in Explorer as well. If you just specify the file: protocol without a directory (or specify file:\\), it will open This PC:
So 0x11 isn't the only one who works these constants Windows Shell API and can be found in the Shlobj.h header file, which is a part of the Windows Software Development Kit (SDK). Like these constants:
Now you could use an Alias for this last block code and then put it on $PROFILE so it applies to your shell each time you open it and not only one session. This how to do so:
edit: so i just read the above answer (the most voted one on here) so basically you could just go to Folder options and change from Home to This PC and then just write explorer on your PowerShell and it will lead you to This PC.
So i have just updated my pc from windows 10 to 11 and saw that the little windows security icon in the bottom right corner showed some recommendations. I tried opening up windows security but it wouldnt. So i navigated to it through the settings menu and then it told me this "Get an app to open this 'windowsdefender' link". I have tried nearly every guide on youtube but nothing has worked as of yet.
i should also mention that i cant find the windows security app under the apps section in settings
My client only has Acrobat DC installed. She merged two PDFs to create a portfolio and sees this message in File Explorer. That in itself is fine, but when she uploads the PDF to Salesforce or any other web based upload, the PDF uploads as only this error message page, and not the actual PDF. So instead of being a 5-10 page PDF, it's a one page error message. Looking for some assistance on figuring this one out.
That isn't an error message. That is the "Cover Sheet" for the PDF Portfolio which is displayed when the Portfolio is viewed in a tool that can't interpret the Portfolio file structure. That is normal behavior.
User is on a Windows 7 Pro machine running Acrobat DC on the latest version. Acrobat can open these files but a)File Explorer cannot show anything but the above error in the preview window and more importantly b) uploading these combined PDFs leads to a one page PDF with just the above image and no other content.
HELP I removed Adobe on my pc and didn't ever create anything I have the same issue and Adobe is dismanteled and removed - I'm rebooted and still have this problem. I can say I will not ever purchase this problem from Araobe and here I got it for free. It's a POX on the program when you can't remove the app from your personal pc. PLEASE HELP
Thank you for responding on this, i have the same issue as above. could you please share the solution if you are aware of it by any chance ! how can we open and view the file ? Thank you for your time in advance.
See this link -pdfs.html#sharing_pdfs , which illustrates how to share and how the PDF Portfolio will open up online. The shared recipients will receive an email with a link. When they click on that link the splash screen will appear to take them to the shared file online.
Hey, Joel - It looks like it's been a few years since you last posted about this. I'm wondering if there is a better solution to this problem. I am working in Windows 10 Enterprise with a current version of Adobe Acrobat DC installed. I created a portfolio and sent it to a number of coworkers. in the same environment. They all got the same "For the best experience open this PDF portfolio in Acrobat X or Adobe Reader X, or later" message when they tried to open the portfolio file. How can I avoid this? I have attached a copy of the portfolio in case that helps.
Very little PDF software handles portfolios. You see that File Explorer doesn't handle it, nor do the other things you are using. Adobe cannot solve this, because these other software developers are just ignoring what they should do. If you don't have to use a Portfolio, then don't use one. If you DO have to use a Portfolio, stick ONLY to Adobe software, and remember that web services all run software, little of it made by Adobe.
Has Adobe still ignored this issue? My client has countless PDF porfolios saved in our database but when they try to open them they are presented with the "cover sheet" error message....is there still no Adobe browser extension to support PDF Portfolios? Does Adobe have any plans to support this or will our client always have to download the portfolio to their local machine and then open it with the Adobe program?
The error message proposes to click on the displayed button in order to open the web page in a new web browser window. And if that fails too, you may use your context menu to specify to explicitly open it in a new window, even if a Firefox configuration on your computer has been configured to always display in new tab of existing window when requesting to open a web page in new window. And please check also the version of your web browser, if it is up to date or may have gotten outdated.
I'm on a 2016 MBP running Big Sur 11.2.1. I upgraded the OS about a month ago, once I was done with some projects. I did not do a clean install, simply the upgrade from the previous version. I have worked on an MBP since 2009, so have been through multiple OS upgrades, done a clean install only once. I have never had issues.
Big Sur has been a not-so-good experience thus far. The most nagging issue I face is the frequent pop-up I get that says what the title of this post says: "You do not have permission to open this app." The text under it says "Contact your computer or network administrator for assistance." The apps I use most frequently are Google Chrome and MS Word, Powerpoint, Excel. There are other non-Apple apps, but I haven't had occasion to use them yet. I am nearly confident that when I do I will get this same message.
In looking online, I get some developer forum posts about this. One said to use the "Get Info" and add my actual user name (which is the admin) to the Sharing and Permissions area. I did so. But to not much effect. It works sometimes, it doesn't at others. Some days after I shut down at night and power up the following morning it works. Some days I let the computer just sleep and the next morning the app decides to not load.
hello and thanks for the response. I actually did do as you suggested. I am logged in as the admin, not a secondary user. And I have set permissions to Read & Write for the apps I mentioned as admin. It still doesn't work. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thank you once again!
From what we can tell, you're seeing a pop-up on your Mac that says you don't have permission to open an app. We're glad you've connected with us in Apple Support Communities, and we can provide some guidance.
You're certainly welcome! It sounds like you're logged in as an administrator on your Mac and you have permissions set correctly for your apps, but you're still seeing an alert when opening apps. Let's try some additional troubleshooting to see if we can get this sorted out.
Have you tried opening the app from Finder by control-clicking the app icon and selecting Open from the shortcut menu? When you do that, "The app is saved as an exception to your security settings, and you can open it in the future by double-clicking it just as you can any registered app." Have a look at this link to learn more:
Basically, instead of a link or a file being opened in active window by default when clicked, and new window when cmd+clicked, it would toggle to open in new window by default, and active window when cmd+clicked.
I would also really like this feature, my biggest point is just that VSCode supports the same choice (they call it preview mode/edit mode, if you do not edit a file it will not open a new tab but this behavior can be changed in the settings).
I very very frequently just click files and search for things and want everything open.
on the same note, a button to close all open tabs would be nice, but is not necessarily since you can just spam click the far right X until everything is gone
I tried the idea of pinning a note so that it would not be close/replaced by the opening of a new one. Trouble is, if you click on a link that points to the pinned note the pinned note should open to the pinned note. This does not occur. If the link to the pinned note is a block level link, then the pinned note should open to that block. That does not happen which is default behavior, but only if the note IS NOT pinned. Consequently, pinning to stop a note from closing is not a good work-around.
If you use mouse, then you can middle click to open link in new pane.
Not feasible on laptop unless you remap some another key by Keyboard Maestro or AutoHotkey. Such key is then disabled for other actions so requested behavior is preferable. Perhaps it could be done as a plugin. #plugins
+1, please add it, it will reduce significant amount of time for a lot of people our there like me.
Current mechanism divides the attention of user and hampers the productivity.
a toggle, by default false, would not hurt.
The error message "You will need a new app to open this ms-wpc link" typically occurs when Windows is unable to find the correct app to open a specific file type. To fix this issue, you can try resetting the default app settings for the affected file types. Here's how:
