IfI am printing from a PC, the prints do look quite clean and sharp. However, if I am copying a document, the print is very pale and most of the details that are not completely black on the original are completely lost. I've set the darkness from "Normal" to "Dark +5" with nearly no change.
In addition to that, some pages (no matter if printed from a PC or copied) have toner smear either on the back or the front. The intensity also varies. I have cleaned the printer and the problem is not made by the current toner cartridge, as it was the same with the old two cartridges.
Is there anyone who has an idea what could cause those problems? I am currently really fed up by this printer with only having printed 2000 pages and the scanner (712 scans) making squeaky noises, the printer taking up to 3 tries to pick up the first piece of paper on a print job, not being able to copy some documents and having to re-print some jobs due to the toner smear.
Are the toner smears repetitive? Can you post a sample as that often makes it easier to troubleshoot. As for the multiple attempts to pick a document, that can simply be a dirty pickup roller which can be cleaned with a water dampened lint free cloth. ADF noise is sadly a common complaint on most consumer products as moving components are often plastic on plastic and once a little bit of dirt works into the moving components they squeak. A needle oiler can sometimes help to cure these noises.
Brand new iMac, 2023, M3 chip, macOS Sonoma 14.2. Plug in cable from older model Samsung M2070FW laser printer and get message "Filter Failed". Cannot print. I downloaded printer driver software from HP (HP now owns the Samsung printer brand), but that still did not help. I deleted the printer and re-added it to printers, still no help. But I can plug the same printer into my 2014 MacBook Air Laptop running macOS Big Sur 11.7.10 and it prints great. I love this Samsung M2070 series printer and really do not want to throw it away and have to buy a new one. Just trying to save the environment, any help is appreciated.
Also, the Samsung Xpress M2070W is listed as a supported printer in About AirPrint - Apple Support (en-us edition, January 23, 2024). This means that it should even work for printing without an additional driver, provided that the printer is connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router) as your iMac.
AirPrint works with wireless (Wi-Fi) or wired (Ethernet) network connections, so you may want to choose to wire the printer by Ethernet to one of the LAN ports of the router instead of using a wireless connection. The iMac and any iPhones/iPads could access the printer wirelessly via the router.
Dear Mal-S, I cannot thank you enough. It Works! That link you sent did it. At first it did not print, but then I opened up printer preferences and selected the "radio button" to ON that says "Use Generic Printer Features" and then it printed. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks! Big Eduardo

I have run into something like this previously. A few things to try:
1) use a different (older?) version of adobe reader
2) install another PDF reader (eg pdf exchange viewer)
3) install a PDF printer (eg. pdfcreator), print to that to create a new PDF file, and then try to print that from adobe reader
Next, I kept having all sorts of problems with MS Office, so that too went into the bit bucket.
I now use Open Office exclusively, for myself, and I install that for my customers who are having some kind of a problem with MS Office.
Hi yes my printer wont print from office word not even the latest one so uninstalled it when back to open office and bingo prints as good as gold, when word it kept ending me to one note and one drive when tried from there sent me back to word.
So yes use open office a great free program
Hello The Doctor! I read your reply (and the others) and I find myself in exactly the same boat regarding Foxit en Open Office. I use LibreOffice. The less Microsuck is on my system, the better. It is bad enough having to run with this OS for specific software that is not available on Ubuntu.
However, I have the same problem with a Samsung ML-2580N which I got for free. It prints the Writer (similar to Word) documents without a hitch, but refuses pdf documents. Even reprinting them vir Foxit into another pdf, it still refuses.
This is extremely frustrating, since many documents obviousl come in via pdf and while I could try to convert them to another format, it consumes unnecessary time. Hopefully somone here has another solution I could try.
When you are talking about a specific PDF, you should realize that it may be protected, and one of the various forms of protection is that the recipient may allowed to read it, but he is not allowed to print it. There is a tutorial from Adobe explaining the intricacies of this at How to Protect PDF Documents. You might treat that as homework, as it is well worth remembering.
Apart from that, check to see that the file association is with the correct program, and check to see if the relevant printer is the default. If the computer has both Adobe Reader and either Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Acrobat DC installed, I think Adobe will insist that Acrobat must take precedence over the lowly Reader.
This detail must have been in another thread, but someone had to have something for the tax department, and The Taxman is surely the poster child for documents, especially PDFs, that he does not want tampered with. You mess with those at your peril. Adobe could advertise or demonstrate PDF protection using tax documents more effectively than with any other example.
Samsung Electronics at IFA 2013 showcased its state-of-the-art mobile printing solutions and introduced new products that will push the boundaries of innovation in the Printing industries. Samsung has set ambitions targets for this sector and through a focus on mobility, user-experience and design, the company aims to become the number one A4 laser Printer and Multifunction Printer (MFP) manufacturer by 2017.
It has long been assumed that the increase in mobile devices and the move towards the paperless offices would impact demand for printing. However according to a recent announcement made by IDC, a market research institution, pages printed by single and multi-function printers in 2012 could cover the surface area of New York City 237 times. Additionally, the survey found that users of mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, print more than non-users. The report also predicts that more than half of mobile device users will engage in mobile printing in offices by 2015.
Having foreseen the move towards mobile printing, Samsung has been developing mobile focused applications since 2009 that include a dedicated Samsung Mobile Print app, Wi-Fi Direct support, a Native photo printing button, Google Cloud Print and recently added NFC functionality.

The problem is when I trying to print from an Apple device. Id trying printing from 2 Desktop Mac and 2 iPhones and doesn't work with any device. I'd tried to print from the same devices using some other printers and works at all, so the problem is just with this specific printer.
Hello. I apologize, as of November 1, 2017, Samsung no longer provides technical support for printers. HP has taken over responsibility. For any printer related inquiries please reach out to HP directly at

One can see that cups crashes followed by a systemd core dump. After a few retries, the cups service just restarts and forgets about the print job. In the GNOME settings, I can see the printer disappearing from the list of printers and reappearing later.
Most - if not all print jobs - work by sending a series of printer control characters using PCL. If the spool file gets corrupted for one reason or another - it may create a result like this. What the exact cause in your case is - that is blowing in the wind - the eternal bit fields.
The cups service has been renamed due to an upstream decision so if you have updated cups and not restarted then cups is failing because the old service has been removed and the new service not loaded.
After the cups update from arch linux hit the manjaro users, it seems that my problem is gone. I still had to enable and start manually cups.service, but now printing works again just like on arch and suddenly I can even print multiple pages from libreoffice.
