After some attempts to push 4-channel quadraphonic sound equipment into the home market in the 1970s, surround sound really arrived in living rooms in 1982 with the introduction of 3-channel Dolby Surround. This was upgraded in 1987, with Dolby Pro Logic for a total of four audio channels.


As digital signal processors have become cheaper and less power-hungry, virtual spatial audio headphones have made the hardware surround sound approach basically obsolete. As is the case with new technologies, there are many competing implementations of virtual spatial audio in headphones.


From this point on, subsequent data sent by the client will be wrapped in an MCS Send Data Request PDU, while data sent by the server will be wrapped in an MCS Send Data Indication PDU. Data can now be redirected to virtual channels.


The server sends its supported capabilities in a Demand Active PDU. This PDU contains a structure that has many capabilities of different types. According to Microsoft, we have 28 types of capability sets. Major types are general (OS version, general compression), input (keyboard type and features, fast-path support, etc.), fonts, virtual channels, bitmap codecs and many more. Then, the server may or may not send a Monitor Layout PDU to describe the display monitors on the server. The client will then respond with a Confirm Active PDU containing its own set of capabilities.


After the connection has been finalized, the major part of the data sent between the client and the server will be input data (client->server) and graphics data (server->client). Additional data that can be transferred includes connection management information and virtual channel messages.






RDP can use compression in output data (both fast-path and slow-path) and in virtual channels. Both the client and the server need to support compression in general, and the specific type of compression negotiated for the connection. The client advertises the compression types it supports in the Client Info PDU during the Secure Settings Exchange.

B): Decoding surround sound is a matter of the software used by the player. The basis for 5.1 surround sound is the audio signal source, we recommend a movie DVD with 5.1 sound and a corresponding player that supports multi-channel sound. A): The "Speakers" option switches the sound card to audio outputs on the sound card (L + R, SW, Center, etc.) and disconnects the SPDIF. You cannot make a 5.1 digital from the stereo signal. The 5.1 Surround can be made from 2-channel audio only in an analogue way and use analog outputs on the sound card.


B): If you switch to SPDIF, a signal is directed to the digital output that is directly from the source recording. This means that if the recording is stereo, the SPDIF signal is in PCM format that is only two-channel. If you want 5 + 1, you need to use the 5 + 1 signal source (original DVD at best), then the signal is transmitted directly to the sound card in the so called "SPDIF AC3 Passthru" format and there is no change or degradation of the sound quality (of course, with the correct setting).

In projector-based virtual reality, modeling of the real environment plays a vital role in various virtual reality applications, including robot navigation, construction modeling, and airplane simulation. Image-based virtual reality systems have been gaining popularity in computer graphics and computer vision communities. In generating realistic models, it is essential to accurately register acquired 3D data; usually, a camera is used for modeling small objects at a short distance.


In 1968, Ivan Sutherland, with the help of his students including Bob Sproull, created what was widely considered to be the first head-mounted display system for use in immersive simulation applications, called The Sword of Damocles. It was primitive both in terms of user interface and visual realism, and the HMD to be worn by the user was so heavy that it had to be suspended from the ceiling, which gave the device a formidable appearance and inspired its name.[11] Technically, the device was an augmented reality device due to optical passthrough. The graphics comprising the virtual environment were simple wire-frame model rooms.


In 1992, Nicole Stenger created Angels, the first real-time interactive immersive movie where the interaction was facilitated with a dataglove and high-resolution goggles. That same year, Louis Rosenberg created the virtual fixtures system at the U.S. Air Force's Armstrong Labs using a full upper-body exoskeleton, enabling a physically realistic mixed reality in 3D. The system enabled the overlay of physically real 3D virtual objects registered with a user's direct view of the real world, producing the first true augmented reality experience enabling sight, sound, and touch.[28][29]


Special input devices are required for interaction with the virtual world. Some of the most common input devices are motion controllers and optical tracking sensors. In some cases, wired gloves are used. Controllers typically use optical tracking systems (primarily infrared cameras) for location and navigation, so that the user can move freely without wiring. Some input devices provide the user with force feedback to the hands or other parts of the body, so that the human being can orientate himself in the three-dimensional world through haptics and sensor technology as a further sensory sensation and carry out realistic simulations. This allows for the viewer to have a sense of direction in the artificial landscape. Additional haptic feedback can be obtained from omnidirectional treadmills (with which walking in virtual space is controlled by real walking movements) and vibration gloves and suits.
