Le développement spectaculaire des approches cognitives dans les sciences
sociales a profondément influencé notre compréhension des organisations et
des activités des managers. Ces approches ont plus particulièrement modifié
les analyses de la prise de décision, de la résolution des problèmes, de
l'apprentissage, de l'expertise, de l'innovation et de la créativité dans
les organisations.
En juin 1995, lors d'une 1re journée d'étude, Robert J. Sternberg avait
initié une réflexion sur les rapports entre cognition et créativité. En
1996, une 2e journée d'étude contribuait à explorer le rôle que les
émotions jouent dans ces différents processus, tandis qu'une 3e journée
d'étude examinait en 1997 les liens qui existent entre la cognition et la
créativité organisationnelles et l'apprentissage organisationnel. Cette 4e
journée d'étude entend poursuivre l'interaction fructueuse établie entre
les sciences cognitives et celles de l'organisation en explorant les
facteurs socio-psychologiques de la cognition et de la créativité
organisationnelles.

Keynote Speaker
Robert Farr est, depuis 1983, professeur de Psychologie sociale à la
London School of Economics and Political Science. Né en Irlande, il est
diplômé en Psychologie de la Queen's University of Belfast (BA, MA, DSc).
Il est titulaire d'un PhD en Psychologie du travail de l'University of
London et il est psychologue du travail certifié en Grande Bretagne. Il a
étudié la psychologie sociale comme Fulbright Scholar à l'University of
Michigan, Ann Arbor, du temps où était intégré en un seul programme
psychologie et sociologie. Il a enseigné la psychologie au Trinity College
Dublin, Queen's (Belfast) et à l'University College London, avant d'être
engagé en 1979 comme professeur de Psychologie à l'University of Glasgow.
Il est membre d'honneur à vie du British Psychological Society. Il en a
été, entre 1970 et 1975, le Secrétaire général et le Président en
1985-1986. Il est membre de l'Academia Europaea. Il a été récemment
l'invité du gouvernement indien au 85e Congrès de l'Indian Science à
l'Osmania University à Hyderabad du 3 au 7 janvier de cette année.
Il est l'auteur de The Roots of Modern Social Psychology 1872-1954 (Oxford
: Blackwell, 1996) ; il a également co-dirigé, avec Moscovici, Social
Representations (Cambridge : Cambridge University Press) et avec Markova
Representations of Health, Illness and Handicap (Harwood Academic
Publications, 1995). Il a été rédacteur en chef du numéro spécial de The
British Journal of Social Psychology sur l'histoire de la psychologie
sociale (1983, 22 (4)) et du numéro spécial de The Journal for the Theory
of Social Behaviour sur les représentations sociales (1987, 17 (4)). Il a
publié plus de trente articles dans des revues de recherche et plus de
trente chapitres dans des ouvrages qui relatent de la psychologie sociale
et de ses applications. Il vient d'achever (en collaboration avec Markova)
une étude empirique sur l'individualisme dans un contexte de rapide
mutation politique et économique. Il étudie aujourd'hui l'individualisme
dans d'autres formes de collectivisme, notamment asiatiques. Il travaille
actuellement, en collaboration avec de Rosa, sur les images en relation
avec les représentations et sur l'usage des images dans la publicité.

The dramatic development of cognitive approaches in the social sciences has
influenced deeply our understanding of organizations and of managerial
activities. In particular, these approaches have modified the analysis of
decision making, problem solving, learning, expertise, innovation, and
creativity in organizations.
At the 1st symposium, in June 1995, Robert J. Sternberg initiated an
examination of the link between cognition and creativity. In 1996, the 2nd
symposium investigated the role that emotions play in diverse processes,
while in 1996, the 3rd symposium explored the potential links between
organizational cognition and creativity and organizational learning. This
4th symposium will pursue the fruitful interaction of cognitive and
organizational sciences by investigating the social psychological factors
of organizational cognition and creativity.

Keynote Speaker:
Robert Farr is Professor of Social Psychology at The London School of
Economics and Political Science, a post he has held since 1983. Irish by
birth he is a graduate in psychology of The Queen's University of Belfast
(BA, MA, DSc). He has a PhD degree in Occupational Psychology from The
University of London and is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist in the
UK. He studied social psychology as a Fulbright Scholar at The University
of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in the days when there was a joint programme there
between psychology and sociology. He taught psychology at Trinity College
Dublin, Queen's (Belfast) and University College London, before being
appointed, in 1979, to a Chair of Psychology at The University of Glasgow.
He is a Fellow and an Honorary Life Member of The British Psychological
Society. He was Honorary General Secretary of the Society between 1970 and
1975 and it's President in 1985/86. He is a member of Academia Europaea. He
was recently a guest of the Indian Government where he was an Invited
Speaker at the 85th Indian Science Congress held at Osmania University in
Hyderabad on 3-7 January this year.
He is author of The Roots of Modern Social Psychology (1872-1954) (Oxford :
Blackwell, 1996) ; co-editor (with Moscovici) of Social Representations
(Cambridge : Cambridge University Press) and co-editor (with Markova) of
Representations of Health, Illness and Handicap (Harwood Academic
Publications, 1995). He was guest editor of special issues of The British
Journal of Social Psychology on « The History of Social Psychology » (1983,
22(4)) and of The Journal for the Theory of Social Behaviour on « Social
Representations » (1987, 17( 4)). He has published over thirty articles in
refereed journals and more than thirty chapters in books relating to social
psychology and its application. He has just completed (jointly with
Markova) a large scale empirical study of individualism in a period of
rapid political and economic change. He is now interested in studying
individualism in the context of other, especially Asian, forms of
collectivism. He is currently working with de Rosa on images in relation to
representations, including the use of images in advertising.
