John Stachel: Constant speed of light "seems to be nonsense". Actually, it is OBVIOUS nonsense, equivalent to Big Brother's 2+2=5. So obvious that Einstein wrestled with his conscience "over a lengthy period of time, to the point of despair" before positing it:

John Stachel: "But this seems to be nonsense. How can it happen that the speed of light relative to an observer cannot be increased or decreased if that observer moves towards or away from a light beam? Einstein states that he wrestled with this problem over a lengthy period of time, to the point of despair." https://history.aip.org/exhibits/einstein/essay-einstein-relativity.htm

The root of evil in physics is Einstein's nonsensical constant-speed-of-light axiom. Physicists know that, start telling the truth sometimes, but then stop halfway. Physics is predicated on the nonsense and would collapse without it. In this regard, telling the truth is suicidal:

"Lee [Smolin] and I discussed these paradoxes at great length for many months, starting in January 2001. We would meet in cafés in South Kensington or Holland Park to mull over the problem. THE ROOT OF ALL THE EVIL WAS CLEARLY SPECIAL RELATIVITY. All these paradoxes resulted from well known effects such as length contraction, time dilation, or E=mc^2, all basic predictions of special relativity. And all denied the possibility of establishing a well-defined border, common to all observers, capable of containing new quantum gravitational effects." Joao Magueijo, Faster Than the Speed of Light, p. 250 http://www.amazon.com/Faster-Than-Speed-Light-Speculation/dp/0738205257

"He opened by explaining how Einstein's theory of relativity is the foundation of every other theory in modern physics and that the assumption that the speed of light is constant is the foundation of that theory. Thus a constant speed of light is embedded in all of modern physics and to propose a varying speed of light (VSL) is worse than swearing! It is like proposing a language without vowels." http://www.thegreatdebate.org.uk/VSLRevPrnt.html

"The whole of physics is predicated on the constancy of the speed of light," Joao Magueijo, a cosmologist at Imperial College London and pioneer of the theory of variable light speed, told Motherboard. "So we had to find ways to change the speed of light without wrecking the whole thing too much." https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/8q87gk/light-speed-slowed

"To state that the speed of light is independent of the velocity of the observer is very counterintuitive. Some people even refuse to accept this as a logically consistent possibility, but in 1905 Einstein was able to show that it is perfectly consistent if you are prepared to give up assumptions about the absolute nature of space and time." http://math.ucr.edu/home/baez/physics/Relativity/SpeedOfLight/speed_of_light.html

So Einstein vandalized space and time and the counterintuitive nonsense became "perfectly consistent". Yet the constancy of the speed of light remained obvious nonsense in the Doppler effect scenario. The motion of the observer cannot change the wavelength of the incoming light:

"Thus, the moving observer sees a wave possessing the same wavelength [...] but a different frequency [...] to that seen by the stationary observer." http://farside.ph.utexas.edu/teaching/315/Waveshtml/node41.html

"Vo is the velocity of an observer moving towards the source. This velocity is independent of the motion of the source. Hence, the velocity of waves relative to the observer is c + Vo. [...] The motion of an observer does not alter the wavelength. The increase in frequency is a result of the observer encountering more wavelengths in a given time." http://a-levelphysicstutor.com/wav-doppler.php

Accordingly, if the speed of the observer relative to the light source is Vo, the speed of the light relative to the observer is c+Vo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHepfIIsKcE

Physicists clearly see, e.g. here https://youtube.com/watch?v=bg7O4rtlwEE, that frequency and speed of light pulses vary proportionally for the moving observer, in accordance with the formula

(frequency at observer) = (speed of light pulses relative to observer)/(distance between pulses)

Yet physicists believe that only the frequency varies - the speed of the pulses gloriously remains constant. Ignatius of Loyola explains:

"We should always be prepared so as never to err to believe that what we see as white is black, if the hierarchy of the Church defines it thus" https://i.pinimg.com/736x/c9/bb/5e/c9bb5eb049bc1d58834129afcea7d63b.jpg
