Step 1: Download and install File Scavenger 4.0
You can download File Scavenger 4.0 from the official website[^1^] or from other sources[^3^] [^4^] [^5^]. However, be careful of fake or malicious downloads that may harm your computer or steal your data. You will need a license key to activate the full version of File Scavenger 4.0. You can purchase a license key from the official website[^1^] or find one online[^2^] [^3^] [^4^] [^5^]. However, be aware that using a cracked or pirated license key may be illegal or unsafe.

After downloading File Scavenger 4.0, run the setup file and follow the instructions to install it on your computer. You will need administrator privileges to install File Scavenger 4.0.

Step 2: Launch File Scavenger 4.0 and select a scan mode
After installing File Scavenger 4.0, launch it from the Start menu or the desktop shortcut. You will see the main interface of File Scavenger 4.0 with four tabs: Basic Search, Long Search, RAID Recovery, and Span Recovery.

The Basic Search tab allows you to perform a quick scan of a selected drive or folder for deleted or lost files. The Long Search tab allows you to perform a deep scan of a selected drive or folder for deleted or lost files with more options and filters. The RAID Recovery tab allows you to recover files from a damaged or corrupted RAID array by reconstructing the RAID parameters. The Span Recovery tab allows you to recover files from a spanned volume that has been split across multiple disks.

For this example, we will use the Basic Search tab to recover some files that we accidentally deleted from our C: drive.

Step 3: Select a drive or folder to scan
In the Basic Search tab, you will see a list of available drives and folders on your computer. You can also browse to a specific folder by clicking on the Browse button.

Select the drive or folder that contains the files that you want to recover. For this example, we will select the C: drive.

Step 4: Select a file system type
Below the drive or folder selection, you will see a drop-down menu that allows you to select a file system type for the scan. File Scavenger 4.0 can detect the file system type automatically by default, but you can also manually select one if you know it.

Select the file system type that matches the drive or folder that you want to scan. For this example, we will select NTFS as our C: drive is formatted with NTFS.

Step 5: Start the scan
After selecting the drive or folder and the file system type, click on the Start Search button to begin the scan. File Scavenger 4.0 will scan the selected drive or folder for deleted or lost files and display them in a tree view on the right panel.

The scan may take some time depending on the size and condition of the drive or folder. You can pause or stop the scan at any time by clicking on the Pause Search or Stop Search buttons.

Step 6: Preview and recover your files
