Today there is no way to install iTunes on linux or with play on linux, with Virtual box it backfires and does not allow to synchronize and manage the music of an iphone with banshee or rythmbox with the new versions of IOS is impossible. At most today we can see the photos of the device and sometimes it fails more than anything else. Have you really tried any of the methods you mention?

So does the dd command actually convert the .iso to a .dmg and mount it to the USB? I noticed that in the bottom of his post he says mac's won't boot from these unless they have OSX. Is there a work around to get this working for linux?
I'm currently using VirtualBox to boot, but the objective is to replace OS X with Kali on my MBP. Thanks for the help, I'll try writing the iso to a dvd and booting since the flash copy won't work. The usb works on my other windows / linux computers but MBP won't recognize the bootable media. I'll try the
Hey great reply - I have been using 'dd' for all my iso related activities for ages on mac, linux and windows (well i use the term 'windows' loosely as I quit using anything microsoft years ago but a little netbook i bought recently had something called 8.1 on it arrgghh ) anyway thats another headache altogether.
I use Windows as a host OS. I do this for many reasons but the simplest one is because Linux works better in a VM than windows does in my experience. I tried checkRa1n in a kali VM with the phone passed over USB directly to the VM. This was a dead end. The exploit process looked like it was working but it never completed, do not enter this cul-de-sac.
Hello everybody. I've an iphone 4s (ios 8.4). I never did the backup on itunes or icloud. But I must recover the data inside before restore it with itunes, (I just tried the update tool with itunes without success).. Kali Linux doesn't recognize the device, cos it is in recovery mode. is it possible to recognize the idevice as a memory card on Kali Linux or other distributions? What tool can I use?
