[MELMOTH]

The 5th piano concerto of Camille Saint Saens has only been recorded
about thirty times since 1950...
Richter / Kondrachine (! Melodya 1952...Then 1955 and
1993)...Enchanting and unclassifiable...
Fabienne Jacquinot / Fistoulari (MGM 1953) confides to us the secrets
of the French School in a rhapsody with vivid colors...

Then come Magda Tagliaferro (APR 1954)...Frugoni (Vox 1955)...Monique
de la Bruchollerie (INA 1965), all of whom captivate by their bravery
and virtuosity, and make us forget the lilites of monophony...
As does the great Jeanne Marie Darré, (EMI 1957) accompanied by the
well forgotten Louis Forestier...And who records the first complete 5
concertos of SS...For me, this remains the reference version, brilliant
and infinitely poetic...

Then will come Rogé / Dutoit and especially Collard / Prévin, Collard
with a very convincing steel playing, I think... (even ifDutoit/ Prévin
never convinced me as a conductor)...
Obviously, Ciccolini / Baudo are there, with their debussystes colors
(EMI 1970)... In the end, quite disappointing...

Thibaudet / Dutoit (decidedly, this "conductor" [sic] seems to be a
subscriber to this work) instill an irresistible energy...
Descharmes (Naxos 2015), little known, manages to rid the work of all
its clichés...
Kantorow (father & son ! Bis 2016)...Subtle, perfect setting...
Chamayou / Krivine (I've always loved this conductor...Erato
2017)...True epic full of meaty sounds...

My podium ? (my god that all this is grotesque !) :

1 - Jeanne Marie Darré...
2 - Jean yves Thibaudet
3 - Bertrand Chamayou

Bé, il se trompe souvent de groupe alors !
Après avoir incité les contributeurs à quitter "fr.rec.arts.musique.classique"
pour rejoindre un autre groupe anglophone ( et cela en Anglais ) , il publie
dans la même langue sur ce groupe, alors que je crois me souvenir que la
charte le prohibe quelque peu.
Viendra après, le thème de la désaffection actuelle , pour *FRAM* en évitant
ostensiblement d'en citer les causes dont vous avez là , une puissante démonstration.
