In a world filled with chaos,
we pray because prayer is the antidote to anxiety
There simply is no greater work, no greater calling,
no greater ministry than that of intercessory prayer.

Prayer for - Praises and Prayers
Thank you everyone for your prayers re my Godmother, Janis Shannon and her relocation to Gallup, NM. PTL all went well, and they had a smooth trip from Burbank to Gallup overnight. She is settling into her new home facility and getting to know folks there. She is experiencing some confusion which is to be expected, but over-all, doing well. Please continue to pray for her and her family. She lost everything in the fire, and they have to start from square one in terms of needed documents, glasses, prescriptions and so many other things we take for granted, which is a bit complicated due to relocating to another state. Her son Doug is doing a great job of working his way down the list. Thank you again.

Prayer for – Thank you for your prayers for my church Godmother, Janis Shannon, who lost her home when her board and care home was destroyed in the Eaton Fire. She has been in a temporary care facility since January 7th when the fire broke out. Unfortunately, her family was unable to find a permanent home for her in the LA area due to the number of seniors being displaced by the fires. She will now be moved to Gallup, New Mexico where her son and his family live. PTL they have found a wonderful care home for her there at a much lower cost.
She will be leaving LA on Sunday, February 2nd, at 9PM via medical transport with her son and daughter-in-law for the drive to Gallup. Please pray that the trip goes smoothly and that she is able to sleep for much of the travel. Pray also that she’ll transition well into the new facility and will make friends there. This has all been a lot to process for a somewhat frail 93 year-old. She lost her husband in 2022 and has struggled emotionally since then.
Janis is especially dear to me as her husband, Foster Shannon, was the pastor who baptized me as a young adult. Janis, being an amazing pastor’s wife, took me under her wing and has kept me there for over 50 years now. Much of my faith life I owe to her.

Prayer for – I had radiation therapy for cancer about 3 years ago. Recently I have been diagnosed with a flare-up of the cancer and the recommendation is additional radiation to deal with it. I have completed all the needed pre-treatment procedures, and the additional radiation treatment is scheduled to start tomorrow. There will be fewer radiation sessions this time, but they will be a higher radiation level than the previous treatment. We are very blessed to have all the current medical treatments available to us.
I ask for your prayers that I can manage these higher radiation level treatments.
Thank you all for your prayers.

Prayer for – Dear Prayer Partners,

The last week has been a bit of a whirlwind, and I realized today that I hadn't even opened my computer since last Wednesday, much less sent out a prayer update. Thank you so much for praying even when you were not hearing news from us.

Thank you especially for praying for my (April's) mom and for wisdom for us as we decided whether we should return home to be with her. Mom went into the hospital a week ago on Saturday with pneumonia in both lungs.
By Sunday she was in ICU. As we prayed, we decided on Monday night that we should return home to help with her care and be with her. We purchased tickets, wrapped up some of our work and handed it over as best we could and packed our bags. Wednesday morning we boarded a plane for the long trip home. The Lord brought blessings along the way, such as getting the last 2 tickets at the economy rate on our flight and getting a complimentary hotel and meals for our 8-hour layover in Ethiopia (even though it wasn't overnight). That was a huge blessing to not have to wait it out at the airport, but be able to stretch out and take a nap in a nice hotel before boarding an 18-hour flight. After a couple of more flights and layovers, we arrived in Medford, Oregon on Thursday night, exhausted, but safe with our luggage at our daughter's house.

Friday, I was able to be with my sister and brother and to visit mom who was still in ICU, sedated and intubated. We met together to talk about Mom's care and also talked to her doctor about the plan for the way forward going into the next week. The next morning, Saturday, we received a call saying that Mom's heart had gone into a-fib and, while they had been able to stabilize it, her condition was deteriorating.

Saturday afternoon, with my sister, Otto and I at her bedside singing to her, she was ushered into heaven. For her to go from being strong and healthy to deteriorating so rapidly was a bit of a shock. We are thankful that she is with the Lord she loved and is no longer in pain or suffering, but we will also miss her greatly.

Thank you so much for all your prayers. God has definitely been giving us the strength and peace we have needed during this time. On the day she died, I read that morning from Philippians where he says "To live is Christ, but to die is gain". He went on to say that it was hard to choose because being in the presence of Christ is what we desire and yet he was confident that it was more fruitful for others that he continue to live. I knew then that if God still had more fruitful work for Mom to do, then He would bring her through this, but if not, then death would be her gain. So wonderful to be comforted by God's word before I knew what would happen that day.

We have so appreciated so many expressions of love and prayers through this time. Thank you. We are now in the midst of preparing the memorial service and burial and all the other details that come with the death of a loved one. Please continue to pray for us.

In His Service,

Otto & April Habeger

Prayer for - Update and new request: January 19, 2025

Praise God that things have calmed here and are getting back to normal. Thank you so much for your prayers and your encouragement and expressions of concern.

We do have a new prayer request. April heard that her mom was admitted to the hospital yesterday with pneumonia in both lungs. Today she was not much improved so they have moved her to ICU. Please pray for healing for her and for peace and wisdom for us to know whether we need to travel to see her. Pray for April’s sister as she is there caring for her.

Thank you again. It is so encouraging knowing that you are standing with us in prayer.

In His Service,

Otto & April Habeger

Prayer for – Update: January 18, 2025
Things have been quiet today with a government curfew in place from 6 pm to 6 am and a large security presence in the city. As far as in Juba, there is some movement around and a few shops beginning to open again. There is still a lot of tension, but they are trying to restore peace. Other areas of the country have also been experiencing a level of violence as well in varying communities. Please continue to pray. We will keep you updated as we can.
In His Service,
Otto & April

For – The family of Linda Adams
Prayer for – This morning, shortly before 9AM, our good friend Linda Adams peacefully passed into the arms of Jesus. Her brother, KC Duell and his family were at her side. It has been a year-long battle with cancer, surgeries, radiation, and hospital beds, and she is now released from all of it, and we give thanks to God for that. Linda was well-loved and huge part of our church family. Please pray for her family to feel God’s peace and love around them during this time. Service details to come at a later date. A tree will be planted in her memory, alongside her husband Glen’s tree on the east side of the Sanctuary.

Prayer for – Dear Prayer Partners,

Please pray for the situation in our city right now. Violence and looting broke out last night and continues in some areas of the city today. The reports are that there are groups who are seeking retaliation against Sudanese because of the recent killings of some South Sudanese in Sudan. They are fighting and looting shops of Sudanese living here. Please pray that calm will be restored, and that God will stop the cycle of retaliation and violence. We are safe and working from home. We hear the gunshots and sirens as they try to control the situation. So far reports from our staff are that all are safe. Please join us in prayer.

In His Service,

Otto & April Habeger

Prayer for – It is with sadness to announce the death yesterday of my brother-in-law Kenny Waranius (Connie's husband).  I sent a prayer request before Christmas that he had just been diagnosed with late stage cancer. For the past month Connie, my nephew Brook, and Hospice have been looking after Kenny.  He is now free of pain. Kenny would have turned 75 on Jan. 27th.
Thanks for your prayers, Nancy Streeter

For – Janis Shannon and Marc & Krista Bourdages:
Prayer for – As some of you know, I traveled down to Altadena on Sunday to visit my church Godmother Janis Shannon. I had a good visit with her, but with the concern over the Santa Anas, the many emergency warnings going on, and potential fire danger, left Altadena Tuesday afternoon a few hours before the Eaton Fire broke out in the area where she lives. The fire swept through the Altadena community and among the homes destroyed are both the board and care home where Janis lived, and the home of Marc and Krista Bourdages, Sandy Morris’ middle daughter. Thankfully, Marc, Krista, son Austin, and their dog are all safe. Janis was initially evacuated to the Pasadena Convention Center along with other residents of her care home, but is now safe with her daughter, Kathy. Like so many others, Janis and the Bourdages lost everything in the fire.
The biggest issue facing Janis at this moment is a housing facility that can provide care for her. Please pray her daughter Kathy, will be able to find new accommodations that will meet her needs. Kathy has a townhouse which is not well set-up for a fragile, 93-year-old. It’s particularly difficult as Kathy has a full-time job, and Janis really needs to have someone available 24X7. Kathy searched today for a new board and care home anywhere in the LA area but had no success. The owner of the board and care home she was in is also searching to place the home’s residents in at least temporary housing.
Please pray that accommodations may be found for those with special needs in terms of housing, as well as peace and trust in the Lord’s provision for their needs. (A large senior assisted living facility in that area was also evacuated Tuesday night.)

For – For all the people affected by the fires in Southern California.
Prayer for – "Heavenly Father, we come before you with heavy hearts, praying for comfort and strength for those affected by the recent fires in Southern California. Wrap your loving arms around those who have lost their homes, loved ones, and livelihoods. Guide the first responders as they work tirelessly to protect lives, and grant them safety in their efforts. Bring healing to the injured and provide solace to those facing the overwhelming task of rebuilding. May your presence be felt in their darkest moments, and may they experience your peace and hope amidst the devastation. We pray this in Jesus' name, Amen."
We all probability have friends and/or family members in the fire area of So. CA.
Please hold all of these people and the firefighters trying to help them in your prayers. “God, bless each and every person affected by this storm and surround them with Your love, protection, and angels. Let them know there are millions of us out here praying for them and their loved ones. We give You all the praise and glory forever, Lord, and know that even in the darkest hours, You are always with us”.
