I do a combination of things.

1.  I have professional "eye-catching" signs that I created on my computer in MANY different places making it OBVIOUS to people that I paint for tips.
2.  I try to hold a wad of $$$$ in my left (non-painting) hand.  Keeping a $5 and $10 on the outside of the bills for people to see.  It took me awhile to get used to painting this way, but I believe it's paid off.  I don't actually hold all of my tips....I keep those in my zippered pouch in my apron.
3.  I wear a large button that says, "I paint 4 TIPS."

Good luck and Happy Independence Day!

Oh, Pam, you ARE sly....holding those bills in your left hand!  Made me smile!  ROFL

I suggested a sign that said, "Your tips are my ONLY pay tonight"

Yes!!!!  I just got a flashback from my waitressing days ... fold the bills lengthwise, then fold again with the middle part wrapping around your middle finger of your left hand ... both ends of the bills face the outside of your hand.  It will be hard to miss!  Maybe paint on your hand, 'Your Tips Hard at Work'

when we work by the hour my line manager tells people that "face painting is free but tips are greatly appreciated"

Hello,

You know the flashing cups that have the L.E.D. lights in them?  We sell them at our Booth set-up.  It's great for evening tips  with all the flashing, set them on a black peice of fabric one your table and a large sign by your menu board. I did see the same type of cup on Ma Ma Clowns table in Florida once in a photo. We are working 2- 5 hours gigs one hour apart!!! 10 hours painting, ease mats and neck coolers, a fan down under the table sounds Goood too, 90 degrees here in Oregon.

Happy 4th of July...

Flashing cup???!!! I WANT that!

I heard one painter say she put a sign next to her tip jar that said,
$5 tips Get A Prize!

Then she gave out Safe T Pops (sp?)

She said her tips went from $15 a night to over $70!

Maybe that sign next to a flashing cup! I need one of those!
