I had the privilege of a quick review of the Face Painting Book of Cats
by Marcela Murad and wanted to preview it here for you all.
New face painters will have a major source of inspiration - Marcela's
cats (and the cats of others that she shares), are breathtaking in
their uniqueness and beauty. I love the morphs because it's something
I rarely do when I paint. The morphs reminds me that I can be more
playful when I paint and not be so literal - that I can take the cat
face, for example, and add the hint of another animal. How fantastic!!
I have to use the word "inspiring" because that's exactly what this
book is - whether you are a new face painter or been face painting for
years - you will find something in this book - through placement on the
face, use of color, markings, whiskers, whatever - it's ALL here.
What's also important is the LOVE of cats shine through. If you love
the animal that you are painting on someone's face, you probably will
love painting it, too!
Never having gotten into glitter powders - I have vowed, after reading
this, gawking at the designs, that I will get myself some - just
because the glitter powders bring just a bright glow to all of
Marcela's paintings when she uses them.
Last, but not least, like in her Face Painting Book of Butterflies -
another treasure - Marcela is very generous in the Book of Cats with
step-by-steps for her paintings. Didn't you ever look at a painting
and ask yourself: "How did she do that?" Well, this takes some of the
mystery away. What mystery does remain is waiting for you in your own
heart and in the expectant face of the next child you paint.
You will want to have this book on your shelf, but I doubt it's going
to stay there.
An idea would be to take this book, which is compact and lightweight,
and for those who don't bring photos to their parties, you can keep
this book in your bag and just when you feel at a loss for what to do
next (that does happen, after all), take a quick peek into any page in
this book, and say, "Ah-hah!"
