This is a feature request to keep the search history for good. It can be added to one of the hidden preferences.

- I am aware that I can move them to the bookmark to keep them for good; but, that is a lot of manual work.

I am hoping that keeping a large history won't have any effect on the performance.

I'd like to second this feature request. The functionality would be like a web browser, where you can turn search history on or off. It's sometimes helpful to be able to retrace ones steps, for example, after adding items to an index.

I also like the idea of keeping a search history and being able to edit it, perhaps even grouping related searches. I started using the templates for that effect.

Any features allowing automated queries of longer lists and saving a portion of hits and their contexts as a text file, as is possible with dtsearch, would be much appreciated.

The search history is already there in FoxTrot Pro (menu Bookmarks / Bookmarks Window). History is kept during 90 days.

You can change how long to keep it by opening in TextEdit the file "com.ctmdev.FoxTrotPro.prefs" (not the .plist one) from your ~/Library/Preferences folder, then change the value in the line:
<historyDays>90</historyDays>
Note that you should quit FoxTrot Pro before modifying this file, or your changes will be overwritten.
