Hi Everyone:

With less than two weeks to go until the AP Psychology Exam, I know many of you are pulling your hair out trying to get your students ready.  Especially those, like myself, whose school have spring break next week.  Nothing like having your students come back from a ten day vacation to take the AP Psychology Exam. :)

Our next Milwaukee Area Teachers of Psychology (MATOP) meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 11th at Pius XI High School in Milwaukee.  We currently have firm commitments from three publishers to send examination copies of their latest psychology textbooks and are in discussions with a fourth.  Please contact me if you have something you would like to share at the meeting.  A detailed agenda will be coming in the near future.  For more information on MATOP, please go to http://www.germantownschools.org/faculty/kkorek/MATOP_Home_Page.cfm  Please let me know if you have something you would like to present.  At our last meeting we decided to allow more time for teacher sharing.
Please keep May 17th open for the 2011 Enhancing the Teaching of Psychology Conference at UW-Green Bay.  For more information go to http://www.uwgb.edu/burnsk/TeachPsych11.htm.  A quick reminder, April 29th is the last day to get the "early bird" discount.

Amy Weise, a senior research student at the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay, is conducting a project on ways teachers evaluate student work.  She is asking teachers, not just psychology teachers, from around the country to take a short survey (5-7 minutes).  The survey can be found at http://uwgreenbay.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_2mZZbvHNYLxExAE   Thanks in advance.
Every summer, over forty colleges throughout the country sponsor College Board endorsed AP Psychology Summer Workshops.  These week long events are designed for both the novice and veteran teacher.  The AP Central website has a search engine at http://professionals.collegeboard.com/prof-dev/workshops/summer-institutes where you can find a workshop near you.  Since 2004, I have presented at a number of these summer institutes.  For information on the four workshops I will be at this year, please go to http://www.germantownschools.org/faculty/kkorek/Advanced_Placement_Psychology_Summer_Institutes.cfm

Last year a number of people wrote me with information on psychology openings in their districts which I relayed to all of you through this email network.  I would like to do the same again this year, especially with the dramatic changes facing our state.  Please feel free to contact me at kko...@germantown.k12.wi.us if you would like to publicize a high school psychology position.

Please remember that there is a scoring change for all Advanced Placement Exams, including AP Psychology, this year.  The quarter point adjustment for guessing has been eliminated.  I've told my students to NOT leave any questions blank.  For more information on this change, go to http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/public/courses/212187.html

As always, please contact me with any additions, subtractions, changes, etc. to our email database.  My hope is to get this message out to every psychology teacher in the state and a few lucky teachers over the border in IL. :)  Approximately 550 emails go out with each mailing and about 75 get bounced back.  Please feel free to forward this message to anyone with an interest in WI high school psychology.

Best of luck to you and your students on the AP Psychology Exam.

Take care,

Kent
