Hi Everyone:

I hope all of you, teachers and students, made it through the AP Psychology Exam without too many scratches and bruises.  My students thought the test was pretty close to what they expected.  I was a bit surprised to see both Free Response Questions following the same basic format of applying psychological concepts to a life event.

- Teachers in the state could use your help.  A number of Psychology teachers have contacted me with news that, due to a variety of reasons, mostly budget cuts in their school district, they are without a job for next year.  Please let me know if you are in the job market OR have a psychology/Social Studies position open in your school district.  I will do my best to get the word to those looking.  I'm guessing people are primarily interested in a psychology position, but are willing to look at any Social Studies opening.  There are a number of excellent teachers out there hoping to find something.

- The two 2009 AP Psychology Free Response Questions were released from the College Board on Thursday afternoon.  Go to http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/public/repository/ap09_frq_psychology.pdf to see a PDF version of both questions.  I'm looking forward to seeing the rubrics. As the questions have been released you are free to talk about them with your classes.  You should NEVER discuss the multiple choice questions with your students.

- The Teaching High School Psychology Blog is going full guns.  We have had over 4200 hits in the last month with over 500 on May 11th.  You couldn't tell that May 11th was the day before the AP Exam, could you? :)  It is great to see how many people are visiting the site.  I'm always thrilled to hear the stats saying WI is almost always the state with the most hits.  If you haven't had a change to visit the blog lately, please go to http://teachinghighschoolpsychology.blogspot.com/.

- For those of you unable to reach the Teaching High School Psychology blog (http://teachinghighschoolpsychology.blogspot.com/)  because your school's web filter blocks all blogs, you can now have the postings emailed to you.  You can sign up for the email updates at http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/mailverify?uri=TeachingHighSchoolPsychology&loc=en_US or using the form box on the THSP blog site. You will then receive an early morning email containing all of the blog entries for the past twenty-four hours.  Please be aware, some SPAM filters might block the email message.

- From what I've heard (I was busy that day with my daughter's softball game), the teleconference call with David Myers went really well.   Don't forget there is still time to sign up for the teleconference call with Charlie Blair-Broeker along with Randy Ernst, authors of Thinking About Psychology on May 19th.  As time permits, both calls will include questions from the audience.  To be part of the call with Charlie and Randy you simply need to register by sending an email to nshe...@bfwpub.com or contacting your BFW sales representative.  The sales rep for WI is Eileen Tanania at etan...@bfwpub.com.  Remember space is limited, so please sign up ASAP.  For more information on the teleconference call go to http://teachinghighschoolpsychology.blogspot.com/2009/05/opportunity-to-talk-with-textbook.html and click on the icon.

- I still have a number of resources from previous MATOP meetings, summer workshops, etc. that I would be happy to share.  In my last email I said I wanted to first offer the materials to someone new to teaching psychology or new to AP Psychology.  A few people took me up on the offer and I still have items left.  Anyone, new or veterans teachers, willing to make the drive to Germantown is welcome to look through some boxes of books and other materials.

- As always, please feel free to forward this message to any other psychology teacher you know.  I'm finding more and more email SPAM filters are stopping emails like this from reaching everyone.  About 80 emails get bounced back with each mailing.

Again, if anyone is looking for a teaching position or has an opening in their district, please contact me ASAP.

Take care,

Kent
