Hi Everyone:

With less than two weeks to go until the AP Psychology Exam, I know many of you are pulling your hair out trying to get your students ready.  On the Teaching High School Psychology (THSP) Blog (http://teachinghighschoolpsychology.blogspot.com/) this morning, I uploaded a posting about the many review books on the market.  Your students might want to make a quick trip to Barnes and Noble or Borders for a study guide.  Next Thursday (May 6th) I am putting up an additional posting regarding last minute items before the exam.  Please feel free to check the THSP Blog for more information on the exam and other issues in the teaching of psychology.  Best of luck to you and your students on May 11th.

Our next Milwaukee Area Teachers of Psychology (MATOP) meeting is scheduled for Thursday May 13th at Pius XI High School is Milwaukee.  We have a number of items on the agenda including:
     - a quick analysis of the 2010 AP Psychology free response question released that afternoon
     - Myers' Psychology for AP (Thanks to Eileen Tanania at Worth Publishing <etan...@bfwpub.com> everyone attending the meeting will receive an examination copy of the text)
     - Psychology: A Discovery Experience from Steven Franzoi of Marquette University  (Mary Sommers <Mary.S...@cengage.com> of Cengage Publishing has provided an examination copy of this new high school level psychology text for everyone attending the meeting)
Please be sure to save May 13th on your calendar for the MATOP meeting.  Our meetings are always free of charge and open to any interested psychology teacher.

A quick reminder, this Thursday (April 29) is the last day to get the "early bird" discount for the 10th annual Enhancing the Teaching of Psychology Conference held on May 19, 2010 at UW-Green Bay.  The scheduled talks include:

Helping Students Distinguish Science from Pseudoscience - Scott Lilienfeld  (Emory University)

Threshold Concepts in Psychology - Jeff Henriques (UW-Madison)

U-Pace Instruction: Enabling a Diversity of Students to Succeed - Diane Reddy, Raymond Fleming, Katie Ports, & Rodney Swain (UW-Milwaukee)

Teaching  sensitive/controversial/resistance-prone subjects - Cyndi Kernihan (UW-River Falls)

Learning from Disasters - Elizabeth Yost Hammer (Xavier University)

DSM_V: Some answers, opinions, and the story so far - Scott Lilienfeld  (Emory University)

How much Feedback is Good feedback:  Developing Writing - Illene Noppe -  (UW-Green Bay)

Teaching with Technology - Tanya Joosten  (UW-Milwaukee)

In addition to her talk on disasters, Elizabeth Yost Hammer is scheduled to meet with high school teachers attended the conference for an early morning breakfast.  For the past few years, Elizabeth has been one of two Question Leaders at the AP Psychology Reading.  The position has given her a unique perspective of the AP Psychology Reading.

The early bird registration fee (before April 29) is only $15 for high school teachers ($10 for members of TOPSS).  At that price you can't go wrong.  After the 29th add $5 to the cost.  For more information go to  http://www.uwgb.edu/gurungr/teachpsych.htm or contact Regan Gurung at gur...@uwgb.edu or 920-465-5679.  I would be more than happy to email the Conference Program and/or Registration form to anyone interested.  Simply contact me at the address below.

Lastly, please feel free to forward this message to any other psychology teachers you know.  My mailing list is fairly extensive, but many of these messages get bounced back by school SPAM filters.  Also, please contact me with names and emails addresses of any psychology teacher in the state you may know of.  Your help is always appreciated.

Again, best of luck with those taking the AP Psychology exam.

Take care,

Kent
