Hello Folks,
An update from Chief Wockner about last evening’s incident.
Good afternoon Everyone,
Here is the latest information on the Wild Turkey Fire that occurred yesterday evening. The fire is just over 1 acre and is currently 100% contained. The cause is under investigation by the Boulder County Sheriff's Office. Four Mile Fire crews will continue to monitor it throughout the day until it is officially called out. No firefighters were injured and no structures were lost. It burned on private property, and we ask that the area not be visited out of respect for the homeowners.
In summary…., early reporting was important on this incident as it was driven by gusty winds through grass. Thank you to those of you who called it in so that we could respond quickly. The fire warranted a significant county-wide response due to its location (near homes), the dry fuels and weather. Many thanks to all of the agencies that quickly responded.
The head of the fire was knocked down with water by the first arriving engine. Crews worked in the following hours to dig a fireline around the perimeter and surround it with hose lines, preventing any further spread and mopping up the interior.
Many of you were impacted by evacuation messaging and road closures. These were put in place out of an abundance for caution due to the potential rate of spread of this fire. We understand that this will never be a smooth process, but hope to continue to partner with members of our community to build understanding and consensus around evacuation and emergency preparedness in this area.
