About what we talked about in NY. In Gothenburg we joined Tech Soup (www.techsoup.com, www techsoup.se) Free software including Microsoft and others. Join the tech soup and get free software. You pay only shipping. We earned at least 200,000 SEK ($ 34,000) on this when we switched server and upgraded to Windows 7.

This is Great! But it will be useful to know if there are any software to suggest, there are many that I don't really know. Except office packages, do you know any software for accounting, database and managing that is included in the list?
Maybe Nick do you know more about the big list and you can suggest which are useful.
Thank you!
and HAPPY EASTER!!!!

Tech Soup is really great. I've used them for two organizations - a clubhouse and another small non-profit. Some of the items you do have to pay a small fee for (a service charge or something) but it's still a lot less than full retail.

Roberta, you might do a survey of local NPOs/NGOs and see what kind of software they are using and get their feedback on it. Also, maybe check out NTen (http://www.nten.org) or find out if there are similar Italian organizations. That's the best I have for advice on technology. Good luck!

I had a look at the website.

I would definitely get:

Adobe
  • Creative Suite (I would get the Production Edition, the main difference being you get Premiere [video editing] instead of Dreamweaver [Web Design])
  • It looks like you have to get Acrobat separately but it's worth it in my opinion (for editing pdfs)
Microsoft
  • Latest Office
  • Windows 8
Symantec
  • Norton Antivirus is pretty good but your IT person may have a particular AV they like
There's lots of great networking hardware in the Cisco section but again your IT person will have their own ideas on what's best.

That's the main stuff I would suggest.

We use donortec which I think is just the Aussie version

The trick is when buying your computers is to make sure they don't come with any software as you are paying for that in the purchase price. If you have any tech savvy people in your house you could build your own with some very high tech specs.

If that's not possible ask your it guy to spend 30 minutes writing a list of all the stuff you need and then once you have ordered all the bits then get him (or her) to assemble with a member and film it. We have saved so much cash by doing this.

Speak soon,

Ok guys thanks for all your advice for the moment I'm the IT girl :-)
But I hope to have some control at least on the computers, when we'll have some ah ah.
A big hug
Roberta
