This is my first time posting on here on what has been a pretty frustrating issue so I really am hopeful for some help. I cannot use packet tracer because my login is failing any time I have tried today. I am following an online course and have basically wasted one of the two days a week that I have to study trying to resolve this.
Even though I am already logged into Netcad on one tab, when I try to log in to the page that packet tracer opens, it fails and then closes packet tracer. I've seen nothing online about this so I guess it's just me. :(
I have disabled my AV, Firewall, cleared cache, there is no popup blocker installed. I have uninstalled it, gone back to Netcad and downloaded it, and (even while still logged in), packet tracer login fails. I have messaged Cisco on facebook hours ago, with no reply as yet. Is there anyone else out there experiencing this?
it worked for me. I first installed and the message came to select public or private network. I choose Private. Then Windows firewall keeps blocking it whenever I tried to launch the program. But disconnecting pc from internet allows it to run.
I want to say that the black window that was appearing to me is a problem in my computer's memory. I think the space is small because my device is very old (:))
I tried a lot of solutions, and it worked.
Anyone who has the previous problem should know that it is due to problems with the computer memory, and you can do some of the following steps to help:
- There is a tool called Memory Cleaner that helps refresh the memory. I tried it, you can visit this person's blog and download it

It is also better to close the Internet browser (Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and others) because they are occupying the memory
- On my part, the McAfee anti-virus program is memory-exhausting (I do not recommend against using it), but it should be paused when using the PT program.
- At the end, you can go to the task manager and press F5 to refresh the memory. That helps a lot.
I still have this circumstance, Please refer to attachment. The circle bar have not been completely finished loading. I can just force to click "guest login' ( I just have 3 times on saving my exercise as I am a guest). Can someone help me?
I use window 7 so my version of packet tracer I am using is old version one
to emnoc: people are not locked to cisco approach, just want to use good inventions if its possible. Imagine i have remote site, like datacenter , and no users can help me to generate traffic but i want to test web filters and app filters under policy , i have report that access to box.com and dropbox are passing trough although i see web filter block is applied for file sharing and storage category. How can i test at this situation? Where i'd get "active" traffic in datacenter with no users there?
Actually fortios has added a packet tracer like function to fortios "diag firewall iprope lookup" it can do protocol and port traffic flows and show you want policy is matched. you do not need active traffic per-se

This is a bugfix release fixing several bugs on accessibility, usability, and security of Packet Tracer 8.2. The image of a network im refering to is above. In Cisco Packet Tracer after having used a command ping 192.168.1.3 from pc1 to pc3, when I check mac addresses in both SW1 and SW2 using show mac address-table(from privileged EXEC mode in SW1 CLI) I see too many mac addresses, I would expect to only see mac addresses from pc1 and pc3 in both SW1 and SW2 however there is also mac address of pc4 in both mac address-tables. However this occurs only on a first ping, when I clear mac addresses(in both switches) reapeat the ping command ping 192.168.1.3 I get only 2 mac addresses in bot switches, as exepected. Is that a Cisco packet tracer bug or am I missing some technical detail?
That sounds normal. When a host first comes up, it may try some broadcast communication, e.g. DHCP. After, it will not need to do that, so clearing the MAC address tables will remove it until there is some other traffic from it.
One of the more useful features in troubleshooting on the PIX/ASA (which we used until recently) is the packet tracer, which allows us to enter source/destination IP/port, etc and check to see if a given connection is allowed or blocked, and by which rule. Is there an equivalent feature in the PA units?
The Cisco ASA packet tracer allows you to propose a hypothetical flow and runs it through the engine as if it were real. Evaluating the NAT and route dicisions which would likely apply in addition to the policy/ACL allow/deny logic.
so for argument sake, say user on 10.10.20.111 is trying to connect to say 172.16.50.9 on port 443, but claims the firewall is blocking them. You can emulate that traffic. This is a vital tool for rule querying.
this is up to layer 4 of the OSI, which gives good details on: known route/path, NAT and whether there is a supporting rule. If the packet gets dropped, there is good information which points out where and why it was dropped. Which gives guidance on what needs to be added to resolve it.
