The Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation in now hiring a Butterfly Conservation Specialist to join our growing conservation team and help us continue to successfully implement our mission. The Butterfly Conservation Specialist will work under the direction of the Executive Director to:

  • Manage our effort to conserve monarch butterflies and their habitat.
  • Assist in management of the IUCN Butterfly Specialist Group.
  • Plan surveys for at-risk butterflies.
  • Assist in the development of management plans for at-risk butterflies
  • Perform limited applied research on select butterfly species.
  • Develop status reviews and ESA listing petitions for critically imperiled butterfly species.
  • Develop and run a butterfly management short course that provides land managers with guidance on how to best manage habitat for butterflies.
  • Update and maintain the Xerces Red List of butterflies and moths.

This position will ideally be located in Portland, Oregon, but we will consider locations in California.  This is a full time position with a salary range of $34,000 - $40,000 depending on experience, and a generous benefits package.
