Hey All,
I have seen a many of devotional books and although they have great things to say, I must admit that I have not have one really touch my heart and strike a cord like this one I received from a friend. I started reading it a couple of weeks ago or so, it is called "Jesus Calling" by Sarah Young. I REALLY wanted to share today's thought with you because it truly gave me profound thought on a story I have heard countless times throughout my life but today this story touched me in a different way. Praise God for that! =)
"Bring me the sacrifice of thanksgiving. Take nothing for granted, not even the rising of the sun. Before Satan temempted Eve in the Garden of Eden, thankfulness was as natural as breathing. Satan's temptation involved pointed Eve to the one thing that was forbidden her. The garden was filled with luscious, desirable fruits, but Eve focused on the one fruit she couldn't have rather than being thankful for the many good things freely available. This negative focus darkened her mind, and she succumed to temptation.
When you focus on what you don't have or on situations that displease you, your mind also becomes darkened. You take for granted life, salvation, sunshine, flowers and countless other gifts from Me (God). You look for what is wrong and refuse to enjoy life unitl that is "fixed"."
Wow! How many time's have you heard this story and thought "that silly Eve she had all that she wanted and needed and she still went for the one thing she couldn't have all along knowing it was bad for her."
How many times have we done that ourselves? We have such amazing blessings and joys around us every day, but yet at times we find ourselves feeling bad or wanting what we don't have. We are just like Eve in those situations. Or wanting something that you know is bad for you from the start but yet you go for it or do it anyways because you want it and then suffer the consequences later? Or that feeling of I can't enjoy life until everything is perfect "syndrome"?
May we all find the blessings and joys in our life at the time the Lord gives it to us and praise the Lord for those things! =)
Hope you all have a wonderful week! Love, April |
