This is a note of thanks to Perkins School for the repair to the guide cable at the Braille Trail and to DCR for clearing the path where trees fell during the winter. This maintenance is what we’d expect and it’s very nice to see it done. I look forward to DRC clearing away all the logs etc. from the downed trees.

Mr. Bockian,
Thank you for contacting DCR and for reporting this cable break. We have alerted Perkins School as the maintenance of elements of the Braille Trail are repaired by them. They too thank you for taking the time to report the matter.
Have a happy new year,

I thought you’d want to know (not as criticism but because DCR crews can’t be everywhere) that there’s a break in the cable that goes around the Braille Trail at the Watertown Riverfront Park. It’s along the riverfront path (not the interior, closer to the street, path) just to the east of the entry to the Mishoon boat area.
Best wishes for the new year,
Jon Bockian

Regrettably, the guide cable at the Braille Trail is broken again. In the short term, it needs to be repaired. Longer term, perhaps the material or construction of the guide cable (or whatever means separates the vegetation island from the walking areas) needs to be reconsidered. The existing cable seems to be either prone to breakage on its own or too easily vandalized. It’s a pity, because it’s unobtrusive.
