Seems like everyone is up in arms about this sale. I saw a large Gursky show at the SF-MOMA a few years back and thought they were quite powerful from a scale and composition standpoint. They are also known to be heavily manipulated, which (somewhat ironically) causes collectors to view these more similar to paintings than photos. Apparently there was only 6 copies made of this particular photo, 4 of which are in museum collections, which means this particular copy is even more unique. On one hand it's great to see photos fetching high dollars and making front page news. On the other hand, it's not great to see the headlines being so dismissive noting that it's "only" a photo.

Thanks for sending Judi.

-Mark
