Hey everyone,

I just discovered that the Green Party are putting forward a divestion motion next week. The motion calls on Bristol City Council to agree to press the Mayor to lobby Avon Pension Fund to divest from fossil fuels. This is happening at a meeting on Tuesday 15th December. Information on how you can help get this motion passed are given in detail below.

To submit a statement in support the motion I think all you have to do is e-mail democrati...@bristol.gov.uk with:
  • Your name
  • Your address
  • The name of the motion you're supporting, which is 'Make Avon Pension Fund a Fossil Free Fund'
  • And - cruicially - a short statement about why you think Avon Pension Fund should divest.

You need to do this by midday on Monday 14th December.

You can also attend the meeting and lobby your local councillor, if they are not from the Green Group.

Cheers,

Lindsey

When: Tuesday 15th December from 18:00 to 19:00
Where: The Grace Room, The Bristol Pavilion, Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, Nevil Road, Bristol BS7 9EJ
The full text of the motion can be found here (on page 5).
There are various ways to help get this motion passed.

1.      Submit a statement (a short note about your support, making a few key points you believe are compelling reasons to divest).
Details of how to do this can be found here (on page 2 - agenda item 4). Deadline is 12 noon on Monday 14th December!

2.      Write to your local councillors (especially if they are not from the Green Group).

3.      Attend the meeting (either to present a short statement or to show your support for the motion). A presence outside the site
can be very effective e.g. with media and those not asking questions. (Note councillors may be in the venue already as they have
councillors question time with the Mayor from 5-6pm).
