application database in openstack+kvm deployment

Traditionally, the database is placed on a partition on a bare-metal machine. The same model is followed over to the virtual machines (VM). But now when moving to openstack+kvm deployment, I am wondering if the application database partition shall better be moved to something else (like OpenStack Cinder Block Storage). Looking for comments and personal experience in this area?
