See below.  Does anyone have issues with providing this information?  If not, David, can you point me to the current list of registered attendees and I will distill it down to only the names of the companies/organizations that are attending.

I had also wanted to make a quick map showing the cities where attendees are coming from (not listing any names, of course).

Thanks Paul!

Great, company name and title will give us enough info to make an assessment on networking.

Thanks again.

Johanna,

I don't think we'll be able to release attendee's names but I will see about getting the list of companies/organizations that are so far having someone attend.

Hi FOSS4G Team,

My company, Maponics, is interested in attending the FOSS4G event later this month.

Depending upon the experience we may look to sponsor this event next year.

The event looks right up our alley, however, I still need to justify to the cost to my Sr. Mgmt.

Can you please send me an attendee list to-date?  Even if it is just company and title.

That would give us a better understanding of networking possibilities.

Many thanks!

Johanna

I do have a mild issue, and do not think that what she's requesting is typical in my experience with conferences. Personally, I would not release this in advance of the conference nor to someone who's not registered or sponsoring. The SOP for conferences I've been involved with is this information is released after the fact and only to sponsoring organizations (indeed, often it's an incentive to sponsor and one of the listed benefits "access to attendee registration info").  The attendee list a potential marketing "gold mine".  Even only the details of firms and titles is valuable information. Y'all's call on whether one more "maybe we'll come" and "next year, maybe we'll sponsor" is worth the effort. I'd say, "come join the 300 other people who will be there and experience it for yourself."

If anything, I'd put some general information on the web-site about the attendees and point her there...I wouldn't do anything special just for her...Stuff like:

·         Over 300 geospatial professionals

·         Representing state, federal and local govt agencies

·         Private sector firms from consulting, energy, blah blah blah

·         List of representative organizations: Maybe, a few recognizable names of agencies and firms

·         Etc.

From my vantage, she's cutting in line and her "upside" of "possibly attending" isn't worth anyone's effort at this stage of the game...Also, our sponsor list is pretty impressive and should be enough to let her Sr. Mgmt know that many recognizable names are taking this show seriously.

My $.02...

MT

PS: I'd suspect if she gets "no" she'll say to herself, "it was worth the try."

Fair enough...  Others thoughts?

Michael, would you think it's still ok to put together a quick map showing the cities where attendees are coming in from?  Certainly not listing company/attendee names.

Love the idea of a map of attendees. It shows the "national scope" (I presume) and fits perfectly with the kind of "general information" that I list below in those 4 bullets.  The idea is we should not try and meet Ms. Hunter's specific needs, but it is a good idea to "self-promote" by showing that we're drawing a variety of interesting attendees and sponsors and in non-trivial volumes...

I agree with everything that Michael said.  I think that she gets points for the "it can't hurt to ask" attempt, but that it would be inappropriate and a bad business decision to give her the information.  I am guessing that our Gala sponsor Urban Mapping might have an issue since they provide similar services.

I don't remember us having a privacy policy, but it wouldn't hurt to be transparent in the future.

David.

I completely agree with Michael.  We know that we aren't going to see names, etc. until after we sign on, etc.  I'm fine with a map or equivalent.
