Hi everybody,

I have built a simple Nepali(नेपाली) Input Extension for Firefox, which allows one to enter Nepali(नेपाली) Unicode characters, based on the Romanized Keyboard Layout released by Madan Puraskar Pustakalya. (http://www.madanpuraskar.org)

It's available at Mozilla addons page ( currently experimental, registration required ) or  here

The installation and usage directions are illustrated at http://www.suvashthapaliya.com.np/showcase/nepali-input-extension/

Hope this turns into a useful tool ! btw, I intended to present this as a New Year's Gift, hope i'm not late. साथै नव बर्ष २०६६को हार्दिक मंगलमय शुभकामना !

Best

Dear Suvash,

Great, thanks for the addons, so when can we have the beer together :D ?

Further, I also need some suggestions, is there any answer to Nepali ttf font to Unicode converter for Linux / Ubuntu? If so, please do share and how we can install, etc. Listing all known applications and utilities for "NEPALI COMPUTING" would be a great thing for ALL Nepali users.

Also, as a suggestions, we can create a Table of all the Unicode Nepali Keys  (both romanized and traditional) in ascending order with equivalent English keys in the keyboard (Its easier that way to find the specific decoding of searching for keys), lets be mathametical first. If I am not wrong, Jacob was using the spreadsheet table to match the ttf fonts keys  with the Unicode keys, Can we have something simple to print and reference it when we are searching fo the specific character? Basanta, Laxmi jee can you kindly share your all keystrokes in the sequence ;)

Hope to see more information and knowledge pouring in here

Cheers!!!

Hempal

Dear Hempal Dai !

I'm glad that the addon proved to be useful. As for the beer part, we surely will have to party sometime :)

I'm not very knowledgeable about the TTF Fonts to Unicode converter. I guess there is one called "Conversion Tools" at the MPP website ( http://madanpuraskar.org/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=35&Itemid=63 )

It runs well under Linux, i have test used it once. ( being a Java program, it will require the Java Runtime to be installed though ! ) A previous conversation thread is available here .

Furthermore, i couldn't be quite clear about what you meant while talking about  --- "creating the  Table of all the Unicode Nepali Keys ".

I'd be more than happy to provide all possible help within my abilities.

Cheers

Dear Suvash ji,
Thank you very much for your nice new year gift. I think this will be
particularly useful for the users of Mac o/s for which the nepali
unicode keyboard layout has not been made. As for other o/s like
windows and linux, we already have drivers which can input in system
wide applications. Nontheless, using firefox addon has its own charm
and easiness. I love firefox extenstions! Keep up the great work.

And Dear Hempal ji,
As Suvash ji said, you can use conversion tools for conversion from
TTF to unicode.

Thanks for all the appreciations !
I'm glad that the tool is being liked !

Hoping that you like the app, a review at the mozilla addons page would work as a charm, helping the extension to come out of the 'experimental' tag.

Thanks !

Best
