I wanted to install nepali unicode traditional layout in Lucid Lynx. I
tried every possible solution that I could find here and there.

Here are solutions that I tried.
1. Add keyboard layout for Nepali.
This only gives me romanized layout, I wanted to have traditional
layout.

2. http://ubuntu.org.np/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/UbuntuNepali
I installed SCIM, this couldn't solve my problem either, left me with
an applet to change the keyboard.

3. http://ja-jp.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=84661448898
The link seems to be only for romanized one,so haven't tried it. But
gave me 0.5% idea of glyphs.

4.http://www.unifont.org/fontguide/
Most Annoying : The link for MPP's download is broken. I had once
tried downloading from MPP, the download was breaking on the way and I
always end up with corrupt download.

All the links I tried, either they gave me a romanized layout or I
couldn't extract the contents of them.

Problem Remains: I want to install traditonal layout for nepali
unicode in Ubuntu 10.04

Hi,

If you wanna type Nepali using traditional layout in Lucid, try using iBus

1. System > Preference > iBus Preferences
2. Input Method > Nepali > Nepali - trad > Add
3. To switch keyboard layout press Ctrl+Space or select from Notification panel

Hope that helps..

Thanks for reply, but still having the romanized keyboard layout.

When I tried SCIM, it gave me a keyboard lock problem in Eclipse IDE.
Uninstalling SCIM solved the problem for keyboard lock. I wrote it
here, just to make a note for others.

And the shortcut of Ctrl+Space too didn't work. I have to manually set
the shortcut for the keyboard.

Any idea ?

put the iBUS in startup...
Run "/usr/bin/ibus-daemon -d" at Startup using System > Preference > Startup Application.

After setting up the IBus in startup, I restarted my system, still
facing the problem.

I removed all previous keyboard layout that I chosed for Nepali, then
I tried Adding a keyboard layout for nepali again.
I added country:Nepal variants:Nepal.

It gives me romanized keyboard layout. Like ram राम
but I would like to have dnfO{ मलाई

kindly follow the steps i've mentioned in previous mail. iBus for Lucid has both traditional and romanized layout.

1. System > Preference > iBus Preferences
2. Input Method > Nepali > Nepali - trad > Add
3. To switch keyboard layout press Ctrl+Space or select from Notification panel

धन्यवाद ज्वलन्त जी,
I solved my problem

For everyone who is trying the same, don't forget to uncheck the
IBus Preferences > Advanced
Uncheck the check mark

[ ] Use System Keyboard Layout

then added a keyboard input method for nepali | ने Nepali-trad (m17n)
|.

This solved my problem.

Due to the check mark in use System Keyboard Layout, whichever
keyboard input method I choosed,
I was not able to get the traditional layout.

Thanks to everyone who answered me very kindly.
