Hello

Are you the same authority of this ?
http://www.iso.org/iso/about/iso_members/iso_member_body.htm?member_id=1988
Which standard will you follow, Unicode, ISO, LDC etc.
If so Have you contacted NLIT? Who is authentic govt body to validate Nepal standard in technology.?
HLCIT has done some 3 meetings under my coordination but should not declared a new standard one.
I have contacted to ministry of science and technology Govt of Nepal but no one is responsible for this work. There are some other ad-hoc standard in Nepali computing to validate by Govt of Nepal. what will be the condition of these standards, i.e. locale, coalition, encoding etc.

Regards

Laxmi Prasad Khatiwada

Since a lot of folks are replying, why don't they form one project
team and work on it?
That is more logical and concrete approach IMO :-)

Is/Will there be any differences between Devanagari and Nepali
Keyboard Standardization ? Yes, Nepali uses Devanagari but I mean can
all languages using Devanagari will/have standard keyboard layout or
different depending on language? I am referring to this wikipedia
excerpt:
-----------
Devanāgarī is the main script used to write Hindi, Marathi, and
Nepali. Since the 19th century, it has been the most commonly used
script for Sanskrit. Devanāgarī is also employed for Gujari, Bhili,
Bhojpuri, Konkani, Magahi, Maithili, Marwari, Newari, Pahari (Garhwali
and Kumaoni), Santhali, Tharu, and sometimes Sindhi, Punjabi, and
Kashmiri.
----------

And which font does it refer? the one like preeti, kantipur or
Unicode Fonts.

Great to hear about the standard going to be formulated for nepali keylayout.

So far the script used is devanagari based on Unicode or ISO but different keylayouts have been used for the same character input.

has anyone thought about the study of ergonomic key input system for nepali language specifically.

MPP have come up with two layouts why don't use those and make some amendments and put in standards.
Has anyone consider about the nepali key layout released with windows xp and vista.

cheerz

Dear Kumar ji,

Nice to read the document about the fonts and keylayouts standards.

I felt that still there is confusion about the fonts, scripts and IM(input method).

So please consider a proper keylayout for the IM to use the script(Devanagari - ISO 10646) and a good typeface font to display the input character.

I hope this things are better known to the FOSSians. Can someone elaborate on the process?

Best of luck in the process of Standardization of Nepali Keylayout and Fonts. and not to use old fonts preeti, kantipur PCS and others(typeface changed fonts for english script with ASCII code)
Hope the authorities are not considering to standardizing the script as well to include three nepali alphabet (क्ष,त्र and ज्ञ).

Best Regards,
Pawan

I think the first thing is to list all the available keyboard layouts.
Discuss their pros and cons. And come up with some thing STANDARD.

InScript Typing ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InScript_Typing ) can
also be considered when discussing pros and cons.

I am really interested in this keyboard standardization but really confuse what does it mean...
1. Does it means assigning the fonts to the keyboard in entirely new fashion..
2. Following the Romanized layout as per MPP

Although by Default in my OS (Ubuntu 9.04 ) there is only one Nepal layout for MPP romanized layout (qwerty keyboard).
It would be glad to get the romanized layout in other different international Roman keyboard formats with out keymapping ... (i.e. Dvorak International). For variant users switching keyboard in and out.

dear all,

the thing being tried is:

1. existing layout will be revised to add more options ...
2. some assignments could be modified, added.. and more regarding
calculation using nepali numerals(ek, dui.. the numbers) will be
implemented as far as possible..

we will be forming the team based on discussion of meetings...

first meeting will be soon.. within the month of Mangsir...

thanks

Please consider all regional language(nepali, newari , maithali or any other which falls under devanagari script) requirements before adding more options. And please make a single keylayout for single language.

 2. some assignments could be modified, added.. and more regarding

Devanagari numerals are already implemented for calculation like spreadsheet and other MS platforms softwares.
Please make an ergonomic keylayout study before going into modification.
(Dvorak was very scientific and ergonomic than QWERTY but not implemented so make a keylayout that ppl will use)

BEST OF LUCK

And
also keep noticed about character code point's transliteration.
If some one has written text in different script, like same text in Nepal bhasha lipi, Devanagari lipi i.e. Nepali and roman lipi and have to map characters in different keyboard layout it needs one to one character mapping between languages if we have to transliterate these text from one language to other. In such cases it needs to identify certain character for certain sound. eg क्ष ज्ञ in Nepali and आय् अय् ल लँ ल: in Nepal bhasha should declared properly with approprate keystracke.
